Yes Connecticut, I'm sure there's a few good places in the tri state area. Jersey , ny, mass, any place worth a trip...
Oh you're willing to travel? Go to Newark->Ferry Street, and you're pretty much set for all the things you listed.
Any place you can recommend, been to ferry street a few years ago stop in a restaurant, for dinner. Not sure where the sell fresh alheiras though.. I was hoping to strart a threaded of places too go if anyone is traveling through or need a good old school home cooking fix thats worth the trip. Haven't been to canada yet, but would like to do so soon perhaps a ranger / maple leaf game. if so could use a few places to go.
The Madeira Restaurant in East Providence Rhode Island is excellent. Muitos Benfiquistas trabalharem la.
there's a place here in Newark called Lopes & Co. where every type of chourico is their specialty. Here is their info: H Lopes Co Address: 304 Walnut St, Newark, NJ 07105 Phone: (973) 344-3063 You can also try the Seabra's Supermarkets but I was told Lopes has the very best of chouricos. Good Luck!
I have no clue how she makes them but my mother does make the best roasted quail. I dont eat alot of meat but I swear I can eat four of those little birds in one sitting. Yummm! God Bless portuguese cooking
a holiday for Santo Martinho we eat up the castanhas big in the North (Portugal and Canada) Castanhas are good here come December.
My parents love castanhas...they have them before, during and after S. Martinho...I'm not crazy about them...they seem too dry for me...but goodead is right...I know everyone in my aldeia (Aguçadoura) has them around this time of year, and I'm from the northern city of Povoa de Varzim.
just had the best castanhas in a long while last night. I went to 3 different places to look for them and they all had different looking castanhas at 3 different prices. Turns out I made the best choice getting 3 lbs at $3.49 a pound in a fish market of all places.
Anybody here in the CA central valley? You can find a lot of azorean restaurants and such...and I found a good portuguese bakery in Hilmar, but Im looking for more.
You find them dry. Do you boil or roast them? My parents are from Sao Miguel and my mother has always boiled them in their shell and they become like good yam, not too dry but not too soft either. If you get a good batch and there are no rotten ones (and nothing is more disgusting that bitting into a rotten sour castanha) they are quite good.
