So I was trying to figure out what an all-St. Louis born team would look like and thought hmm... I wonder what metro area would have the best team. What do you guys think? Let me see your best lineup by metro area. Relation must be born/raised in or at least where they developed. So put together the best team with current active players. Here's what I came up with for Saint Louis. --------------------------------Matt Pickens----------------------------------------- (Colorado) -Frank Simek---------Tim Ream------Tommy Meyer------Luke Kreamalmeyer- (Carlisle United) (Red Bulls) (Galaxy) (New England Revolution) -------------Jack Jewsbury---------------------Brad Davis------------------------ (Portland Timbers) (Houston Dynamo) -------------------------------Charles Renken-------------------------------------- (Portland Timbers) -----Will Bruin-------------------------------------------Tom Heinemann--------- (Houston Dynamo) (Columbus Crew) -------------------------------Vedad Ibišević--------------------------------------- (Stuttgart) Bench: F- Pat Noonan Galaxy F- Mike Roach New England Revolution M- Dado Hamzagić FK Sarajevo M- Brandon Manzonelli New England Revolution M- Cole Grossman Coloumbus G- Chad Becker Harrisburg City Islanders Taylor Twellman, biggest what if to happen last 10 years.
Under those restraints how is Jack Jewsbury included in the list? He was born in Joplin- 300 miles from STL He grew up in Springfield and played his high school soccer there- 200+ miles from STL Are you working on the idea that he went to college in STL and thus that is where he developed? If that is the case you might as well just pick the most successful college teams of the past 15 years and put together those teams. Can Houston claim Brede Hangeland and Clint Dempsey? And without looking up anyone, pretty sure Northern Jersey will win this easily
alright, yeah jewsbury was a stretch ill update it. the st louis team just looked a lot crappier than i expected
How far out does a metro area run? Take Landon Donovan, for example: some would say that Redlands (where he lived) and Ontario (where he was born) are in the LA area, others would disagree. Also, "where they developed" would give the Tampa area a massive advantage, because of Bradenton.
Dallas, TX: Kenny Cooper, Andre Akpan Lee Nguyen, Clint Dempsey, Corben Bone, Jared Jeffrey Hunter Freeman, Ugo Ihemelu, Omar Gonzalez, Drew Moor ? others: Anthony Ampaipitakwong, Marco Vidal, Ruben Luna, Sam Garza, Jay Needham, Greg Garza Probably missed somebody important.
FCD homegrown keeper Richard Sanchez is literally the only professional goalkeeper who has played or lived in the Dallas area for any part of his youth. You're probably not missing anyone. (Other than Sanchez, the only Texan goalkeeper in the pro ranks at any level is Tyler Deric.)
José Burciaga Jr .... Jared Jeffrey Alejandro Moreno wasn't born in Dallas, but moved there at a very young age and went through the Texans youth club as did Ramon Nunez. Conor Doyle, Carl Bussey, Nick Garcia, and Shea Salinas are in the same boat as Donovan in regards to LA. ^ and those are just names that went through the Dallas Texans set up.
I left off Bussey, Garcia, and Burciaga because they're retired. (Well, I thought Burciaga was retired.) Updated Dallas: Kenny Cooper, Conor Doyle Alejandro Moreno, Clint Dempsey, Corben Bone, Ramon Nunez Hunter Freeman, Ugo Ihemelu, Omar Gonzalez, Drew Moor Richard Sanchez Subs: Daniel Hernandez, Bruno Guarda, Anthony Ampaipitakwong, Marco Vidal, Ruben Luna, Sam Garza, Jay Needham, Greg Garza, Shea Salinas, Andre Akpan, Stephen McCarthy, Jamie Watson, Jose Burciaga Jr.
Los Angeles: [LINEUP-4-4-2]Donovan, Kamara, Rogers, Kljestan, Edu, Pontius, Bornstein, Bocanegra, Marshall, Franklin, Rimando[/LINEUP-4-4-2] Others: GK: Kevin Hartman, Dan Kennedy, Brian Perk DF: Marvell Wynne, Michael Orozco Fiscal, Danny Calif, Chance Myers, Jordan Harvey, Tyson Wahl, Tony Beltran MF: Luis Gil, Pete Vagenas, Jose Villareal, Kyle Nakazawa, Gerson Mayen, Gabriel Farfan, Michael Farfan ST: Jack McBean, Matt Taylor, Alan Gordon, Adrian Ruelas, Steven Lenhart Maybes: Bryan Gerzicich, Alex Zahavi, John Thorrington, Herculez Gomez, Jeff Larentowicz, Quincy Amarikwa I'm sure I'm missing quite a few. San Diego: [LINEUP-4-4-2]Barrett, Corona, Avila, Carrasco, M. Farfan, Zizzo, G. Farfan, ?, Soares, Cherundolo,?[/LINEUP-4-4-2] Subs: Ryan Guy
The closest metropolis would be LA, so I put him under "maybe". He wouldn't really fit any other sort of "Homegrown" unless you wanted to do pure Bakersfield (or Kern County). I have included some Orange (Rogers), Riverside (Donovan), and San Bernardino (Edu) counties players under "LA" so the definition is rather relaxed.
Baltimore/DC can put together a pretty good team. [LINEUP-4-5-1] Dante Washington, Santino Quaranta, Freddy Adu, Brian Carroll, Bruce Murray, Kyle Beckerman, Desmond Armstrong, Onyewu, Goodson, De La Garza, Bill Hamid[/LINEUP-4-5-1]
Well, other than the fact that you have a 41-year-old striker, a 46-year old attacking mid and 47-year old left back, that's not bad
Here's one for the District of Columbia itself, without even counting its suburbs: [LINEUP-4-4-2]Adam Cristman, Olakunle Banjo, Amir Lowery, Yoni Berhanu, Michael Mecerod, Jeremiah White, Mike Banner, Oguchi Onyewu, Grady Renfrow, Jordan Graye, Sam Kernan-Schloss[/LINEUP-4-4-2] Several solid pros, and every player in the lineup at least a strong college player.
Add Marco Vidal (Juarez/Leon), Brock Duckworth (GK - Wilmington), and Jonathan Villanueva (richmond kickers) to the Dallas list. Houston has a nice line up forming as well after an initial search: Jose Parada - Fabian Hürzeler - Stuart Holden - Fransisco Navas Zak Whitbread - Pat Phelan - Chad Smith - Bobby Burling Tyler Deric --- Josh Gardner, Nelson Akwari, Brad North, Jerson Monteiro ++++ Brek Shea went through the Texans FC Houston youth set up but is from College Station. *Phelan and Hurzeler were born in Houston **How in the blue perfect hell do you use the formation thingy ? It kept screwing up when I tried it.
I tried Sacramento, where I live now. I'm including, as part of the greater Sacramento area, the area west to Dixon, south to Lodi, east to Folsom, northeast to Auburn, and north to Yuba City. [LINEUP-4-3-3]Adam Jahn, Chad Bartlome, Matt Wiesenfarth, Peter Lowry, Amobi Okugo, Ryan Hollingshead, Miguel Angel Ponce, Patrick Ianni, Jalil Anibaba, Kevin Goldthwaite, Steve Cronin[/LINEUP-4-3-3] You're probably asking, "WHO?!" Bartlome plays for BSC Old Boys in the Swiss third division; the rest of the relative unknowns played college ball in 2011. (That said, all of the college players were on D1 all-conference teams.)
Chicago and surrounding suburbs(All Cook and Lake county, which is considered the metro area of the city) .................................Guzan..................................... Lichaj.....Ryan Miller..............Chris Schuler........Spector ...............Ned Grabavoy..............Ross Labauex........... .............................Michael Stephens.......................... Victor Pineda.............?(McBride!!!!!!!,).......Mike Magee All pros. With the exception of a target striker, because McBride is still better than whoever I'd put there. Also, thought about adding Jermaine Jones as a joke since he naturalized as a citizen as a resident of Chicago. Miller player for Halmstaeds in Sweden, Schuler for RSL. Also, Jay Demerit was born in Green Bay but improved exponentially while playing college at UIC in they city, and also played with the Fire Premier in the PDL.
