Strictly in response to the MEDIAPRO vs PRISA La Liga TV war. If PRISA were to market a package separately around the world, another entity other than beIN SPORT LLC may win the rights in the U.S. and Canada.
BeIN should really try to purchase a piece of GolTV and make it our BeIN Sport Canada. That or sub-license La Liga to GolTV and Serie A to The Score so we can at least catch the games while they hammer their crap out.
GOLTV Inc. (USA) will want a significant premium from beIN SPORT LLC in order to give up the Canadian market. TeleLatino also want to charge a significant premium to sell 20% of itself or 20% of EuroWorld Sport. In any case, all the prices in Canada were jacked up once Youssef advised the Sheik to pay big launc fees.
Overflow of Barclays Premier League games begins this weekend & UEFA Champions League on Rogers channels 370 to 381 also World Cup Qualifying & UEFA Europa League will be there too.
But you said it yourself, the goal is the EPL. That premium price is worth it if the channel is launched in time to be considered for the EPL rights in October.
Not going to happen. beIN SPORT LLC has made it clear that La Liga must air on beIN SPORT Canada, or it does not air at all. Only 3 ways for beIN SPORT Canada to become available: 1 Buy 19.9% of TeleLatino 2. Buy 19.% of GOLTV Canada 3. Find a partner to apply for a new CRTC licence
Thats a very risky game to play if they sub lease it out and just hold it back they could sour other leagues and when they go to bid it could hurt them as they could be told sorry unless you have a channels we will not work with you.
It has been said ad nauseam in this thread that an application to the CRTC for a new channel would almost certainly be denied.
Still believe that buying 20% of TeleLatino is the cleanest way for beIN SPORT LLC to get into Canada as quickly as possible. EuroWorld Sport can be re-branded tomorrow if necessary by running beIN SPORT USA straight through. Rogers will take over management of MLSE soon. GOLTV Canada does not appear to be an option. beIN SPORT LLC is throwing its weight around to force Rogers to remove English Football League Championship matches from its schedule. No chance Rogers and/or Bell can match a $50 million bid from beIN SPORT LLC for all Canadian rights to EPL for August 2013-May 2016.
I am not sure where you got the idea Rogers took the Epl off there schedule as for Bell/Rogers true they would not match the offer of $50 million and they won't have to at the worst they could buy Tln.
Rogers took the English Football League Championship off the schedule of Sportsnet World on Friday. beIN SPORT LLC has those rights in Canada. EPL is definitely next. $45-50 million bid by beIN SPORT LLC should blow Rogers away.
That'll be gone soon enough. I suspect negotiations with TeleLatino are ongoing. Wonder what will air on EuroWorld Sport starting 10pm ET on Friday? The last FSR on a continuous loop?
TLN has archived programming like documentaries and such on the World Cup, and other things. At least some of them count for Cancon. They could show some of those. Considering Euroworld doesn't actually release a schedule, I guess someone with Rogers will have to update the rest of us.
Photo of the beIN SPORT USA set at Imagina U.S. in Medley, Florida via Twitter: Notice that a small section is made of plexiglass so that viewers can get a glimpse of the host's pretty legs during update segments. As some of you may already know, Terri Leigh is a former model. She started in radio at age 15 so she has been working in media for nearly half of her life. In 2004, she joined Canwest Global TV in Winnipeg as a programming manager/traffic manager/etc. and she was noticed by a young FOX Sports World Report anchor who was a former weatherman at CKND-TV. She would be by his side ever since.
C'mon Aldo and Youssef: please wrap up this deal so that you don't make any more enemies among the viewers. The viewers have to be sick and tired of the posturing. Getting this deal done is not exactly rocket science.
There is 0% chance that the EPL will give their rights to BeIN if they don't have a channel launched by the time the bids are due.
