Maybe I'm wrong about this, but I'm guessing there won't be alcohol permitted at any university sites. With the rumors of Hofstra for the Cosmos next year, how important is beer availability during soccer matches for all of our aspiring Cosmos supporters? I certainly don't have to have it, but I'd be lying if I didn't say I like a few cold ones during a match.
We are in the process of trying to run buses out of a bar in the ity which will act as a pre game and post game and maybe beer on the bus - still prelim - however, as a college campus, i doubt beer will be available.
Thanks Nick - Where is the best place to stay up-to-date on what you and the supporters you're with are up to? You're part of the BB?
Social Sports Kitchen (called "Bogart's" when I went to Hofstra) is about a hundred feet from the stadium, right on Hempstead Turnpike. It was a fairly large sports bar back in the day with a club in the basement. That's probably your best bet for pregame in the area. The new bars I've seen at various homecomings aren't showing up on Google maps and may all be closed. Here's a shot of the bar with the stadium behind it: If you want a dive bar and don't mind a bit of a walk, check out McHebe's. It's about 1/4-1/3 mile away.
yea - im part of the BBs ILl keep ya posted - we will be having a huge meeting with everyone in a month or so. We are just taking care of some items behind the scenes and then we are going to call all the fans together to let them know what we are working on for the fans. You live in Sunnyside? Where abouts? PS the Borough Boys are on Facebook, twitter and have a mailing list. Just email mailinglist@boroughboysnyc.com
Not having beer in the stadium will decrease the appeal of getting people out to LI. I hope something can be worked out.
I really doubt that they won't reach some deal where they can sell beer. Beer and soccer are just perfect for one another. I'm sure there's a compromise between "family friendly" and the drunken chanting supporters' sections. "Grab a gun, and grab a beer. Because hunting sober is like fishing... I don't know. All I do know is that we are in constant battle with the forces of soccer mom darkness. Our club's front office works fairly well with us and we have a good relationship with them, in turn we try to keep the swearing down. But one major issue we have had the last three seasons is that our club plays in a rented facility staffed by people used to baseball crowds. We don't get in a ton of trouble, but we do have to deal with ridiculousness like being told we can't say things like "bastard, sh!t, etc." But primarily its the F bombs that get us in trouble, which is understandable.
Yeah, I imagine a lot have the mindset that soccer is "family-friendly," so you bring your kids, never expecting that the entire section next to you will be screaming "who's your father, referee?" lol
