    FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
KENNESAW, GA – Atlanta Beat General Manager Shawn McGee announced Expansion Draft pick Sharolta Nonen and free agent McCall Zerboni as the newest additions to the Atlanta Beat roster.

Both Nonen and Zerboni join the team after competing in the 2009 inaugural Women’s Professional Soccer season with Regular Season Champions, the Los Angeles Sol.

Nonen, a defender from Vancouver, British Columbia, was a member of the former Atlanta Beat (Women’s United Soccer Association) club from 2001-2003. During that time, she was also a staple on the Canadian Women’s National Team earning 58 caps and appearing in both the 1999 and 2003 FIFA Women’s World Cup.

"Obviously Sharolta gives us a great deal of experience at the back, and we are look forward to having her back in Atlanta," said Beat Head Coach Gareth O’Sullivan. With Nonen at the centerback position, Zerboni will provide several different options in the midfield.

"Her best positions are as a right midfielder or as an attacking midfielder," said O’Sullivan. "McCall is very composed on the ball and will contribute in variety of ways to our offense."

Zerboni is a native of San Clemente, California and played collegiately at UCLA from 2005 to 2008. She started every game in both her junior (24) and senior (25) seasons contributing a career total of 13 goals and 17 assists, and became the 16th player in UCLA history to register a hat trick.

She was named MVP of the Bruins’ 2008 season and was the Sol’s final selection in the 2009 WPS Draft. In her first professional season, she earned four starts with 10 appearances tallying both a goal and an assist.
Both Nonen and Zerboni will report to Atlanta for preseason in early Spring of 2010.

    About the Atlanta Beat

The Atlanta Beat joins Women’s Professional Soccer as one of two expansion teams in the 2010 season.

Atlanta entrepreneur Fitz Johnson secured the rights to the Atlanta team in September 2008 before naming Shawn McGee as General Manager and Gareth O’Sullivan as Head Coach in the summer of the following year.

On June 18, 2009, the Atlanta Beat officially became the ninth franchise in WPS as Johnson, McGee, WPS Commissioner Tonya Antonucci and Atlanta Mayor Shirley Franklin unveiled the team name, logo and colors. The Beat acquired its first official players through the 2009 WPS Expansion Draft and 2009 International Draft in mid-September and will complete its roster with the 2010 WPS Draft in January.

Atlanta’s new team takes on the same name as the market’s former Women’s United Soccer Association club which was the only WUSA team to reach the playoffs in every season.

The Beat's colors are Ferrari Red, Championship Gold, and Black.
