More rugby at BBVA Compass Stadium. Scotland this time. We should have the Women's Seven tournament again in February but also another Men's game. http://www.bbvacompassstadium.com/us-mens-national-rugby-team-vs-scotland-bbva-compass-stadium That's just before the World Cup starts in Brazil. It will be interesting to see when MLS shuts down. The league has said there will be another break during the Group Stage.
Negative on the Women's Sevens. The USA leg was moved to Atlanta. I'm hoping the second leg of the NACRA-CONSUR playoff final (vs Uruguay) will be played at BBVA. The first leg will be played March 22, 2014. The second leg held a week later. I guess they're waiting to see the attendance outcome for the USA-New Zealand Maori match at PPL Park on November 9.
BREAK DURING THE GROUP STAGE?!!?!??! If that happens my streak of not missing a single Dynamo game in around 4 years may live on!!! YES! YES! YES! YES! I may get to go to the World Cup and not miss the Dynamo?!
It was! I skipped the first day and went to the playoffs the next day. Damn shame the English beat up on the Americans. Definitely! I just hope there is more media coverage if we do get to host.
Nope. Second leg will be at Kennesaw State University's Fifth Third Bank Stadium in Kennesaw, Georgia. Capacity? Only 10,000. Of all of the stadiums that have and could host rugby, they chose to pass up on BBVA after the two previous appearances posted (then broke) attendance records. Wtf is this sh*t?
Has the other events at BBVA really done a number on our field? The Big RedHead opened his mouth at halftime of the Gal-RSL game and said something I actually agreed with . . . the football lines and the big NFL logos in the middle of the pitches at New England and Seattle were a huge step back perception-wise for USA soccer. Two ancillary things can greatly affect the perception of our sport that needs more focus: quality of the referees and quality of the pitch. It's understandable that these are not getting the same focus as expansion and DP in our growing league, but its time for the MLS FO to start addressing both in a more serious manner.
The ball bounces around a bit, but it didn't stop the Dynamo from passing the ball around well. I didn't see too many slips on the surface either.
Playing on plastic is a joke. The game is different, the ball moves and bounces differently. It's a joke.
I thought it looked very good considering the rain a few days earlier and a football game the day before. Also, what the HELL was wrong with the field at Reliant last night? Worse than anything ever seen at BBVA.
I posted this on another thread and I firmly believe NO ONE cares outside a few of us that have fought the good fight for the sport here in the US and are still sensitive: __ You know, only those of use with inferiority complexes seem to care about the fact there are football lines on friggin stadiums. Yet again, why would it matter? Two NFL franchise share one stadium. The amount of stadiums built in this country that served as both MLB and NFL stadiums is relatively long. It didn't hurt legitimacy of the Vikings, Twins, Gophers (college), Angels, then LA Rams, Indians, Browns, Oakland . . etc . . etc . . .etc. We seem to be the only sports fans that feel hurt by this; you think the majority of fans care? No . . . . especially in North America where there is a 30 year history of shared stadiums. It is only recent history that has seen sport specific venues and that is because the city subsidies made the economics work (which is about a dead deal so you may see shared stadiums again in another 20 years).
The difference is the "attempt" to remove the lines. I think the BBVA did a GREAT job to remove the lines, and I'm fine with the appearance of the BBVA pitch. I'm assuming from the NYRB comment that the problem appears to be the quality of the sod after the wet weather and the football/rubgy traffic on the pitch. It appears that the pitch gets torn up easier at BBVA than other stadiums, although I thought it "looked" great from the stands, all things considering. Can't say how it played. But to have bold, blatant football lines, where you can't easily tell where the sidelines or end-lines are, and that there are bold NFL logos and big NFL team logos at center pitch is a completely different matter. The pitches at New England and Seattle were a disgrace to MLS and their continued effort to market the sport to the masses. It obviously could not be avoided, as both NFL teams had home games on Sunday. But the perception is still there. Kinda the same reasoning why the NBA Clippers cover up the LA Laker banners when they use the Staples Center.
But the point is this: the perception is there only among a subset of fans who frankly are the more hardcore anyway. Most fans and casual observers don't care. Most folks in this region have seen 50 plus years of mixed use stadiums. The fact there is paint on the field doesn't make anyone bristle except some of us US Soccer fans that are overly sensitive. Just as fans of other North American leagues are secure enough not to care that the Patriots had soccer lines on the field or that Oakland has a dirt infield for part of the NFL season or that two NFL teams share a stadium. We just seem to have an inferiority complex about it that frankly doesn't impact perception of the league at all. Now as for the pitch itself - it does seem to be a little soft which likely has more to do with the type of grass we have to use down here. They COULD do a better job of that, but it would require re-sodding often. If it makes you fell better, Reliant stadium last night looked like crap.
This is interesting. There is also a large degree of BS and overstatement of the impact - IMPLAN and its multipliers are flawed and the reason every government entity uses it is because it justifies them wasting taxpayer money. Found the part of AEG/Dynamo having an inter company or affiliate loan with the stadium entity interesting http://www.wavelandventures.com/pdfs/bbva_compass_stadium_impact_report_1375467777.pdf

LOL, Lucky for us fans, I don't think they signed enough people to send four to Pittsburgh and still sit all starters for the Charities Cup ad US Open.
