Interesting. Looks like the X-Games are traditionally late July-August but last year they were in late June. June would probably be better here in terms of weather and scheduling.

I feel like they'd try to keep the whole event at Astrodomain. Doesn't make much sense to spread it out, and AEG worked hard to push things out of The Artist Formerly Known as Home Depot Center.However, they concentrated the event on other AEG-owned/operated. I don't know what kind of deal they have with ESPN to continue operating the games. At any rate 12 year old ritm is f--king ecstatic. Adult ritm is mildly entertained, and will likely spend way more money than he should on tickets.
I suppose the other question would be the impact on the field conditions. The games are roughly three days (I think) but probably require several days before and after. That is a long time for the field to potentially be covered with another surface.
Field conditions were part of the issue (even if they aren't mentioned in that article), plus it threw a wrench in MLS scheduling. If they need a non-Astrodomain venue, booking dates at Toyota Center seems prudent since it's indoors and there's no summer tenant or field conditions to worry about. I'd also like to know what I was on when I wrote that earlier post. I need to employ an editor.

I'm looking at the events in the 2012 X-Games and trying to figure out what would be at BBVA Compass. These are the sports: Moto X Skateboarding BMX Rally car racing They had the Moto X inside Staples Center last time. I think it is likely that would be at Reliant here. Maybe in BBVA Compass but you would have to tear out the entire sod field. The BMX events look the most likely.
Rather not have x-games inside BBVA BUT we could have racing around BBVA through EADO and third ward, make it real extreme

October could be brutal on that field. Six events in two weeks (including three college football games) will be tough.
Two legit questions and a comment: 1) Does it seem to anyone else that there has been a lack of non-soccer events at BBVA Compass Stadium? Has there even been a concert? boxing? I just figured they would have booked something else besides rugby. 2) For the Presidents Club folks among us, are there enough events for them to hit the promised quota of 10 events beyond Dynamo games? I'm going off what I recall from two years ago when they were pitching them (-and the Canetti quote from that conference call promising additional events and "good ones, not just TSU football") Lastly, I couldn't help but notice a tweet showing a picture of Canetti and Doug Hall at City Hall while Mayor Parker proclaimed Gold Cup Day or something. If the team and stadium operating company are so separate, why would Canetti get recognized for an event that the stadium operations company attracted?
I think that they have a problem putting on concerts, except for one off kind of events. The development agreement specifically bars them from putting on any "indoor" concert until 2019. Indoor show is defined as being an event that plays at least 60% of its US events in indoor venues. I'd bet that if Alexander had succeeded in his bid a while back, he'd have had that amended.

Even with that agreement, the Pavilion takes a lot of the outdoor concert business in town. The capacity is up to 19,500 now, plus it's better equipped for bad weather.

I figured that they probably didn't bet super heavy on concerts, but probably had some number of them - or other similar type of events - that they could use the stadium for in the projections. I know the concert business has dropped off over the last few years.
