I'm assuming they won't be a charity game this year since it wasn't part of our season tickets? It's usually a low attendance game so I doubt they will attempt to sell the game later this year.... thoughts?
Actually it could be the opposite. They want to give STH the tickets to games that dont sell well so they can get butts in seats.... So it might mean that they are bringing somebody good and dont want to 'waste' seats on STH when they know they can sell out without them.
This. Or at the very least I think you can assume if the charity game is NOT in the package; the Front Office knows they need to get someone in who will sell tickets.
I also agree. They put the Santos game which was already set with a date and opponent into the season ticket package to drive season ticket sales. It also might help have a more pro-Dynamo crowd. They put the CCL games later this year into the season ticket package because those are difficult to sell individually. I expect a big name opponent for the Charities Cup but that is a more speculative thing since contracts aren't usually signed until later in the spring. If that doesn't work out the team hasn't really lost anything.
I saw somewhere that it is an EPL team. Stoke would be first guess but maybe they aim higher. Has to be a team that is doing preseason in the states. I'm perfectly fine with not having exhibition matches in the STH package. I'd rather have committed dollars go to games in actual competitions, even if it is prelim round CCL games.
Do you really think the Santos game drove any season ticket sales? Looks like plenty of seats are available for that game. This year will be a good test of the Dynamo's ability to draw crowds. New stadium smell is off, games spread out more. I vaguely recall an Ortiz tweet where he said or predicted STH sales were down this year.
Maybe. It certainly would be more useful than talking about a friendly that we might have this summer. Plus I didn't say it worked just that it was the idea. I haven't heard anything about season ticket sales. It will be interesting to hear what that number is.
I think we will find STH are pretty close to flat. My guess is our average attendance does indeed drop a bit though as single game tickets head down as lurkers don't buy this year.
By the way, I don't think this has been mentioned but at the Q&A session at the FanFest at BBVA CC said there would be conference title banners in place for the first game. That's nice.
He also mentioned that they have hired someone to look at the light situation and see if anything can be done.
I forgot about that. The lights are something I just don't have a complaint about, and I've sat in both levels on three sides of the stadium and in the middle and ends of the sidelines. They are bright but not annoyingly so. I never wear sunglasses at night, but I do wear a cap with a brim. I like how bright the field is.
