TSU attendance for last Saturday's game vs. Grambling at BBVA Compass Stadium: 2,966. Anyone want to bet how many years it takes before TSU lobbies to pay no rent to the stadium?
EDIT: God dang, my mind has not been kind to me today. I thought their initial $1.5 million investment essentially was a 30-year lease payment. Serious question: are they paying anything else? I know the agreement fundamentally shifted, but I just thought there was supposed to be a $3 million outlay that was reduced to $1.5 million (not sure where I got that idea from).

TSU got its attendance up this week: 2,968!!! An increase of two fans in a week!!! Um, how exactly can they make money from renting BBVA Compass or putting the upfront money in the stadium drawing less than 3,000 per game? Yeah, didn't think so. Probably end up playing rent-free in two years.
I thought they paid up front so now they don't have to pay rent. It's like they are part owners with few rights.
I'm wondering if they actually paid. The amount that they were reported to pay dropped and its not like TSU had a lot of cash laying around. I need to try and find that lease. Point is, if you only draw 3,000 fans and you know some are comped, can you even cover cost opening up the building?
Part of the deal to get the stadium was that TSU would contribute $2.5 million for the right to use the stadium for 30 years. They get all tickets sales income. I'd don't think that they are responsible for providing game day services such as security etc, so I suppose those costs are born by BBVA Compass.
I wonder if they play during the day so that they don't have to turn lights on and save on the electric bill.
I thought this was covered a long time ago. We didn't get them on board for their money. Everyone knows they have no money. We got them on board for their political currency. Even if the Dynamo (or whatever sister company/subsidiary) takes a loss on this, it's still a net profit because we have a stadium now. TSU helped that happen.
So in a way, the stadium/Dynamo owners take the loss on the game-day expenses (to the extent that they exceed non-ticket revenues). Look, everyone understands that TSU was a political handout to get the stadium, I just wonder how much it is actually "costing" and whether they actually put the cash in. My experience has been that when financial poor companies or entities need to make upfront payments, they sometimes get those financed by the owner or landlord.
On a straight up accounting, no, the Dynamo probably, no are, taking a cash loss on the TSU deal. That said, overall, the Dynamo are making a net gain on the deal by the sheer fact of having the stadium.

40 events at the stadium this year. I'd say they are well on their way to the anticipated 50+ events a year. I don't know how many times I had to point this out to the detractors that were saying, "The Dynamo only play 20 home games a year".
But there haven't been any concerts yet, right? SugarLand was cancelled, and nothing else was announced. I've heard sort of third hand that the stadium is having problems getting concerts. I wonder if that's true. Not that I really care one way or another.
The stadium deal and lease restricts the type of acts that they can book for the next 5-6 years based on certain tour attributes so they could get around the original non-compete that Les had with the City and County in the Toyota Center deal. So a 20,000 or so seat type of act can't be booked (unless Les consents I assume). So the arena-type of acts are mostly out, but you only have an arena-type of seating capacity. Not sure I see where they fit in the order of concerts. The Paul McCartney's and U2s of the world are booking bigger places.
No but it would be a great site for it. Certainly easier to get to for most than the Pavillion. And it's those types of concerts BBVA could host and not violate the TC concert thing. I've been to EdgeFest up there and it totally works. Be even more awesome here.
The high school football playoffs are starting now. I think BBVA-CS can host a state quarterfinal or Round of 16 game while Reliant and/or Cowboys Stadium will host the state semifinals and state championship games. Also next year, BBVA-CS should bid to host the UIL high school soccer state championships. The only problem is that it's during the MLS season. The College Cup national championship is another option and occurs a few weeks after MLS Cup.
I disagree. This turf is very young and needs to develop roots before a lot of events are held there. The turf took a beating during this year. In fact, the KC game the players thought it was terrible (understand TSU played the night before during a rainy day).
