I cracked up at the notion in a Chronicle article today, someone wrote a comment that finally real soccer was coming to BBVA and not that "MLS kickball" I imagine any game featuring New Zealand is a world class display of soccer skillz.
Linky Of course, looking again it looks like its just a hater with his riot gear and arrests comment, and has no clue about what he calls "real soccer"
Bad news for TSU, otherwise good news for soccer fans I guess. TSU faces sanctions, no post-season games and no Spring game next year. http://blog.chron.com/areacolleges/...on/?utm_source=twitterfeed&utm_medium=twitter
They will still have their regular season schedule: http://blog.chron.com/areacolleges/2012/05/tsu-football-banned-from-postseason-competition/ They also will not be able to have spring practice or a spring game. I guess that would be for 2013 and maybe 2014 since that is already over for this year. BTW, its not much of a penalty. SWAC teams do not participate in the NCAA football playoffs and TSU has only been in the SWAC title game once in the 13 year history of the game.
Caught this on Chron.com frontpage: "Scheduling conflict" and "technical difficulties" are sometimes euphamisms for "ticket sales sucked". Interesting to see what the deal was on this one.
There is some sort of non-compete with Toyota Center on concerts. I think the Houston Business Journal had an article on it when they signed it a few months back but it had something to do with not hosting acts that typically play indoors or with a certain capacity.
http://www.bizjournals.com/houston/print-edition/2012/03/16/bbva-compass-stadium-signs-noncompete.html According to this article, if a tour is 60% indoors or greater , then a band can't play at BBVA Compass. On a 50 date tour, if 30 shows are at indoor venues in other cities, the show would be at the Toyota Center or in another part of Houston. What I want to know is, how enforceable is that clause? As an artist, don't I have the right to say "this is a different tour." If The Black Keys wanted to play at BBVA while touring for the El Camino tour, couldn't they just say "We're playing a show at The Oven as part of our concurrent The Road tour"? What about one-off shows? If ZZ Top just decided to play a random show in the middle of July, does Toyota get right of first refusal, or can they play wherever they want? It's a pretty obnoxious idea, even if there are only a few real-world issues. Bad precedent, IMO.
not necessarily... a lot of artists and venues have non-compete clauses in their contracts that prohibit concerts within a certain radius & certain timeframe before & after their concerts. so in the case of the concert you mention at cynthia woods, it is totally conceivable that the black keys are contractually obligated to stay outside a 60 mile radius from cwmp for anywhere from 3-6 months before and after their concert date at cwmp.
I understand a non-compete clause after the band books a venue. What I don't like is the venues (and city, more importantly) conspiring to force a band to play in a certain venue. By the way, I wish I could've been at that show haha. They had a free concert in New Orleans during the Final Four. Just awesome.
I think it was April 24th, but I'm at work and don't really have time to look it up. Not to get to OT, but I can't find a thread on the Valencia game. Does anyone know if they're doing a signing at the open practice tonight? My buddy is Brazilian and would love to meet/ get an autograph from Jonas.
"Following the training session, Valencia players will be available to sign autographs and take photos with fans in attendance."
Only got 5 autographs. Most of them were there, there, and there or skipped all together. Or didn't sign my Valencia jersey because I don't know Spanish.
