That isn't the point. Of course chances were missed but you really have to format your team to deal with something like this. Simply put Bayern didn't have an alternative gameplan. Chelsea were not dreadful at the back but made mistakes, mistakes that could have been converted but the way Bayern allowed Chelsea back into the match, not only after their goal but even when failing to set the tone for the match in the first 30 minutes, it just reflects the overall failed philosophy of the club. I hate to say this and I hate seeing Chelsea win like this. They are arguably the weakest winner in years but the problem remains. If you were to propose the question, did they deserve it..it's not as simple as yes or no.

I'm not disagreeing with a lot of this but remember; Chelsea did a lot to get to the finalas as well.

After the comback on with Napoli, losing the 1st leg 3-1 and then advacing over a fantastic record breaking Messi and Barca (and doing it with 10 men for over half the match at Camp Nou), and then losing their captain to play in the final vs the team that just happens to be hosting the final and gets to play at home in front of their own fans holding out and finally - by beating the hosts, a freakin' German team - in penalties...

Their football may have been ultra-defensive but they got the job done - more than once to reach this final.

Bosingwa and Kalou aside, they are a quality squad. I'm not sure they are the weakest winner in years - just the one with the less flair.

I didn't mean to take credit away. They should be respected for their honest and quite direct tactical plan. They put all their eggs in one basket and always looked to follow through on this plan. It's commendable. From a point of consistency, of course they haven't been impressive all season and you can argue this could be regarded as one of the weaker Chelsea sides in ten years. Their gameplan came together at the right time however and for me, they were never underdogs in this match. There was always the sense that they could win it.

I can't fault anyone besides Gomez and Robben for not finishing the game early. Schweinsteiger worked his ass off all game and everyone in the bar cheered him everytime. When it looked like torres was going to skin boateng and contento he was always there to clean things up.

Speaking of which, I noticed on Twitter the other day that Becker is a huge Bayern fan.
So, did you support Sampras or Agassi?.

Kroos was hardly poor, he was playing to his second best position, keeping control of the game and he did that fantastically. He's an AM and not a CM and it showed today. Still, pinpoint cross for the goal. He looked exhausted as he ran the entire game.

Tymo and Contento had a fantastic display, though this has more to do with the fact that Chelsea couldn't string more than 4 or 5 passes rather than their abilities as players. Still, none of them were overly troubled and Contento did terrifically on more than one occassion.

He tried to do some complex shit all too many times. He is a great player, but his finishing is awful. Most other strikers would put the ball into the back of the net rather than keep dribbling around defenders. He can finish, but only when handed the ball on a plate, and even at that - he came out shortchanged today. He's a great striker, but can't be our plan A, B and C.

Agassi?, OK, we can resume our engagement then ;)
You forgot Steffi Graff? (actually, I had to think quite a few seconds there, lol). I actually just got to see Becker and Graff at the end of their careers. Was a huge fan of Marcelo Rios and Hinggis though.

I wasnt going to respond to anyone today but couldnt let this go.

Chelsea played 10 men vs Barcelona, yet they qualified at the Nou Camp with Barcelona missing loads of chances and their best player missing a penalty too.

Barcelona didnt have an alternate gameplan except the tiki taka.

Can we say this reflects the failed philosophy of Barca too since this seemed to be the buzz word?

The striker who puts everything away. We need another goalscorer who can work well outside the box and perhaps, has his shooting boots on when Gomez doesn't . Today, it was clear Gomez couldn't score yet we had no viable replacement for him.

Chelsea were terrific against Barcelona, who have no plan besides passing the ball and looking for openings. That being said, we are far too direct and they know that on more than occasion, we could have walked into goal. It's sad that we couldn't take our chances, because defensively, chelsea looked far beneath their succinct best.

Plan B is something to say for Barca who kept banging against a wall. We found our way through. We scored a goal, got a penalty, and tee'd up Gomez and Robben on several occasions. Plan B in the conventional sense means "Okay, passing isn't working, so we need a big guy to head the ball in". We have that. Gomez scores a lot of goals, but he only scored 26 of our 77 Bundesliga goals this season, it's not like we're overly reliant on him like Barca are upon Messi. When Messi isn't on for Barca, they need something else, but we aren't that predictable even if your agenda would like to paint it that way.

It's been said many times before but there is a distinct mentality lacking in German clubs/teams in recent years. Maybe it is something that is still developing and growing but it has cost us over and over again. That killer instinct and drive just isn't there in some players/teams. There are notable exceptions and there is tons of talent but the right mentality needs to go along with it.
