Finally, finally, finally dropped some coin on this. Between home renovations, Batman: Arkham City, and Gotham City Impostors I doubt I'll be getting to it anytime soon though.
Our squad tried 'Hardcore' yesterday......not sure I'm digging it though. I thought for a player like myself, who often gets the run on people and the first shots off, but can get undone by superior accuracy and movement..this would suit me better...and indeed, if I get the first hits, I get the kill (as you would expect in a real life situation). I also get that the friendly fire and no killcam adds to the realism of a battle situation. Here's why I didn't enjoy it as much though.. 1) Friendlies (as in team not squad) more often than not are complete assholes. Here's 2 examples. First match, myself and another squad mate were running for the helicopter at the beginning of the game, and 2 guys from our team shot us so that they could get it first. Of course this then creates a feud situation within your own team, where you go hunting them for revenge. That's revenge for being assholes, not like my second example, where I was in the tunnels saw an enemy double back on me, so I went to cut him off...as I was coming out the door of the tunnel a figure come around the corner, and through my startled reactions I shot first......it was someone from our team It was a mistake, but he decided to hunt me down twice to get 2 kills in (though he did revive me the second time)...what was the point. 2) People camp too much. Because kills are so much easier, too many players find nice little spots and hardly move. Now I'm not saying camping isn't a legitimate tactic (though I prefer to keep moving), but in the 6\7 games I had, it just didn't quite seem as full on. 3) Vehicles become more powerful. I think it may have been better to make it slightly easier to take out tanks etc (ie take down their armour as well). As you would expect in a more realistic situation, tanks now mow down people pretty easy with sprayed bullets and ripping down scenery around you....but they still take the same amount of damage (sometimes 4\5 rockets). As an engineer, this makes things much more difficult to take them down. A few times I noticed the teams getting 2 tanks together and just sticking close and tearing everything down around them. I did notice that most players on hardcore were very high levels, so it may just be the case that they are a lot better and arrogant (ff), but it didn't seem as much fun to me.
Following on the Back to Karkand DLC, BF3 will be getting three more expansions. http://www.gameinformer.com/b/news/archive/2012/03/07/battlefield-3-close-quarters-announced.aspx -EDIT- Page on battlefield.com http://www.battlefield.com/battlefield3/1/close-quarters
I almost never play Support (Engineer is my preferred class) so I can't say with 100% certainty, but everything I've seen/heard points to the PKP with a grip and a decent sight as being borderline hax.
Well, for everyone bitching about the USAS12 and the Famas, apparently the new patch has decreased their fire power tremendously. I guess enough people complained, bitched and whinned...oh well. Back to the UMP for me. On the other hand; I loved my claymores...it is strategic in covering your tracks, but to now have them disappear upon your death is wrong. I spend my time dropping them and now I have to do it again? People want this game to be real...well, if a soldier drops a claymore and then dies, guess what? That claymore still exists.
If a soldier dies in real life, he doesn't respawn either. I need my BF3 fix so bad. Been without an internet connection at home for about a week now. Anybody watch the "pros" play via TwitchTV?
The USAS and Famas needed to have their power decreased, it was insane how powerful they were. I think the reason they made it so that the claymores and such go away when you die is so that people won't be spamming the map with them, the only thing left for EA to do is to make he MAV go through all players, so that it can't be used to kill people and so it can't be used as an elevator. Check out the Battlefield Wiki they have pretty good descriptions of everything. I use the G36 as an engineer, M249/M240 as support, G3A3 as Medic and the L96 as a Sniper.
Yeah, I agree, but I loved my USAS12. Disagree...you can only drop 2 at a time so it is hard to spam the maps with them. This should have been the 1st thing they fixed on it. Now THIS is just absurd.
I may be bitter (because I haven't got these weapons yet)....but..good. Too many people using them imo. My mates have them and were using them (against me sometimes), so I called them out for having to use OP weapons, and challenged them to use different weapons for a week...they did so...and their stats (k\d) did drop. Skill will nearly always override the weapon, so I'm not that fussed, but it did annoy me a little when I'd always seem to lose 50\50 shootouts against those weapons in particular. Current weapon of choice for me (while I'm building up my support class) - M249 with a standard sight, forgrip and ext mag. Beast.
lol people play this? isnt it just like bf2? looks amazing, has all the features, many weapons, etc... but when you actually go to play its unplayable.
I have no idea how anyone manages to level Recon - the SV98 is the first rifle you get that isn't a piece of shit, and it's sandwiched between a ton of non-weapon unlocks on either side.
What's everybody's opinion of the new patch? I've just had a couple of hours after installing it. Initial thoughts: YAY! Mines and claymores actually seem useful again. As a general ground trooper...nice to see the vehicles not totally dominating some maps. My guns were all fked up and when I tried to change and accessorise my M249...it wouldn't let me. Then I selected one other gun and it switched back next time I died. One other mate said he had the same issue with 2 of his guns. The server we played had reallly long games. We got 3 maps in (all close results though) in 2 hours...it's usually double that. For some reason I was getting killed often and easily by pistols (M9 seemed to pop up a few times). It could have just been that we were up against a particular squad of friends that were building up pistols...or maybe they know something I dont?? I seemed to have slightly more recoil on my main guns (all with the same accessories)..not sure if it was me, or that they've changed something. Edit: Oh yeah, and jets were hovering. WTF!!
Do the Co-Op missions and unlock the M39 EMR, its a semiautomatic Sniper Rifle. Good at long-range and it will shoot just about as fast you pull the trigger. I read the release notes for the new patch and they've increased the initial recoil for a lot of the weapons, the M249 included. So I'd say just be ready to compensate for that, and I haven't noticed more pistol kills myself but it wouldn't surprise me. All of the pistols are pretty powerful and are quite accurate.
F-35B has STOVL capabilities. [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JQEfmxk3QVA"]Battlefield 3: F-35 Lightning Tutorial[/ame] [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZD-J1KksHUQ"]F-35B - Taking STOVL to a New Level[/ame]
Mmmm..the recoil and suppression is just crazy now. I actually feel like I'm having to re learn the shooting mechanics of the game. As I concentrated on particular weapons and stuck to them, I never really had the inclination to build up every weapon....now it's like I have to put hours of trial and error in to find a new weapon and set up that works. The weird thing is, I've had some of my best (k\d \points) results after 4 hours with the new patch (maybe everybody is struggling), but my frustration levels have tripled. I used to suck but knew I was out shot on a lot of those occasions (knew my limits)...now sometimes, it seems I'm piling rounds into people (on hardcore) and they just don't die.
Man, give people even the tiniest bit of power.... Was playing CQ yesterday and running around with my "usual" Recon loadout: M1014 w/ RDS, extended mag, and 12G flechetteMP443 tacticalT-UGSRadio Beacon Next thing I know I'm booted from the server by an admin. Apparently, the "rules" on his rented server are no shotguns in CQ. Meh.
A lot of the private servers that I've seen on PS3 ban shotguns. Usually only the USAS, but others ban all of them.
"Ban" is a very loose term, and from what I've seen from official BF3 folks, limiting the game play and forcing the use/disuse of certain weapons actually violates their TOS and could result in the loss of the rented server. I read about a guy* who rented a server for 3 or 4 months, wanted it to be a knife-only in rush, and probably spent more time kicking/banning people than actually playing the game. After a few days, his server was shut down by Dice and he's unable to rent one from them again. *Take with a grain of salt. -EDIT- Word today is that Armored Kill is set to be released anywhere between September 4th and September 25th, depending on the platform you play on and whether you're a Premium Member or not. http://www.gameinformer.com/b/news/...d-3-armored-kill-39-s-schedule-confirmed.aspx So, September 11th for me.
I'll be playing it September 4. If people are renting a server, they should be able to restrict the weapons people use. Especially because of people with their USAS 12 with frag rounds.
