Same old ***, just a different day. Now with couple of new members with more weird logic, same rubbish made up stats from in-house staticians who laugh at their own jokes, double standards, changing of quality standard measures to suit the argument, etc Actually as usual this is how this forum goes like before nostalgia takes care of it; And like plenty of them from the days of Soccerpulse below is the pattern - Rules of greatness unless a player in question is Messi; Big games performances (be difference maker), team titles are more important than individual awards, scoring vs small teams is not that important compared to scoring against tough teams, performing for national team even in Olympic teams is a sign of greatness, penalty goals are meh, scoring goals after the title is lost is a sign of selfishness/desperation for records... The above standards can be changed if they don't suit your favourite player during a particular season, otherwise if everything fails stats (as strange or unfamiliar they are can be used), otherwise blame poor performance of your player on the team, other teams tactics, antifootball, idiotic coaches, weak defense, poor goal keepers, basically everything under the sun except your favourite player. To make your argument stronger point ot how his rival scored just because for some odd reasons all strong teams turn to be poor against him just so that he can score. Ohh and use selected youtube clips to spoil a forum a bit, google any praise on your favourite to support your arguments. Btw since when is a difference of 4 (FOUR GOALS) between players is a sign of BIG GAP. Let alone the context of those goals.
Exactly what my post was about The messi lobby always changes criteria to suit their agenda People always talkin about Ronaldo's antics , what about messi? Seems every game lately he waves imaginary cards in the air (bookable offense) and refs oblige, yelled at villa and Cuenca for not squaring him the ball
Honestly dude... Basically CR7 biggest flaw in comparison to Messi is that he likes to take an audacious shot once in a while, thus 'destroying his stats'... 1. The difference is negligible and statistically I can bet it's irrelevant 2. Weirdly enough but Barcelona's own website has dispossessed and turnovers at twice the numbers you supplied Honestly now... who should I believe? The real questions isn't who has higher dispossessed and turnovers, but WHY!!! The stats aren't important, the context is. Which is something absolutely lost to Messi fans. As per DazerII's post.
CR7 is always attacked by the media? Where? When Ronaldo plays brilliantly the media constantly praises him. People and opposing fans don’t dislike Ronaldo because he’s a great player because he is and no one can deny that. They dislike him because of his persona, his arrogance, because of the quotes mentioned before. Also add to that when he said “I’m the first, second and third best player in the world.” It’s easy to dislike that and taunt him for it.
There is no need for this as Messi was the best player each year from 2009 until now based on his weekly performances.
Football not a game where you can analyze every stat, it's much more than that I don't remember people comparing stats between Zidane, Ronaldo, Figo, Raul, Totti etc It's not all about stats
I don’t understand these “Mesi lobby” comments. Is there some conspiracy amongst journalists all over the world meeting in some secret spot specifically plotting to keep CR7 down and pimo Messi up?
Exactly. It's the performances that they put forth that ultimately shows who's better. And that's why Messi is already considered one of the all time best players, and Cronaldo isn't. Cronaldo doesn't really produce any kind of magic in the field, you don't go wow, how can anyone do that. He is ultimately just a better than good striker in a great team. And when more than thorough statistical analysis backs it up, and even strengthens it, it just becomes non argument really. Someone asked from Billie Bean (famous from applying sabermetrics, statistical analysis of players to baseball), who's the most underrated footballer around? And the answer was Messi. And you really can relate to it, because people still try to compare Cronaldo to Messi.
dude did you just tell zah zah to check the math? you do realize hes an actuary right? zah zah an actuary lol!
Every since the Ronaldo sad incident, and speculation that it was because RM were not behind Ronaldo's campaign for Ballon D'Or as Barca apparently are for Messi, there is this idea that there is a lobbying going one by just about anyone for Messi to win it.
There is bound to be extreme opinions on both sides. I can probably find you some that think Messi is not all that great and mostly scores tap ins
Yes, cause Messi's goals actually mattered last season in the 11-12 campaign. HAHAHAHAHAHAHA. Totally disappeared in the UCL and clasicos. Casillas should win it anyway. Euro + La Liga due to being the best GK in the world.
Cause Messi clearly deserves it with his CdR to show for it and his magician's act through 11-12. Please, child.
I don't care if Messi wins it or not, but saying Casillas that is comedy. Why not say Xabi Alonso because he won LaLiga and the Euros as well. Please, Yugoslav.
LOL. Let me guess, you have to score goals to win the Balon d'or? Or wait, let me guess, it can't be a GK? Casillas has been the best GK for quite some time. He is the best GK right now and deserves to win it. Anyone who says Messi should win it is blind and hasn't even considered the other talent. Even Xavi mentioned Casillas should be on the list to win it. Please child, let me educate you.
Nope, do not need to score anything to win the award. if you said somebody like Pirlo, I would say, aright, you may have a point. As for Xavi saying he should be on the list, fine, no doubt. But being on the list, and winning it are 2 different things. Top 3 should be (in no order), Iniesta,Messi and Cristiano. If they give to any one of them that's fine by me. It just seems you are quite hell bent on Messi not winning it, but then again what Messi does, you're gonna hate so...
Luis Suarez (Ballon d'Or 1960): "I feel bad for the Spaniards, but they know they're behind the best player. Ballon d'Or will be for Messi."
Yes the CDR is the only thing Messi accomplished. He didn’t win the European Gold Boot, he didn’t win the pichichi, he didn’t finish second in assists in La Liga just one behind Oxil who’s actually a playmaker, he didn’t finish top scorer in the CL for a 4th year in a row, he hasn’t scored over 70 goals in 2012 and is just 2 away from beating Pele’s record. Yeah the CDR was the only thing.
Really, then why did CR7 win the Di stefano award for player of the season in la liga? That basically says this season he was considered the best week to week performer in the Spanish league , where messi plays Or did messi deserve that award instead after all he scored four more goals then Ronaldo Ronaldo only scored against every la liga team this past season(record messi doesn't have)
Goal tally is what the people who don't follow the season week in and week out will go by. Sorry, Messi wasn't as good as Ronaldo. However, I don't think Ronaldo should win it. I honestly think Casillas is the best GK and has been for Spain and Real Madrid. Again, people will overlook Casillas because he doesn't grab the headlines and doesn't score.
