Re: Fetch Rover! Jones-ing for Blackburn[R] Btw, if anyone has a better Title feel free, I only took a 5 second shot after seeing the story on SI, and realizing we don't seem to have a JJ thread anywhere.
Re: Fetch Rover! Jones-ing for Blackburn[R] Every day at Schalke costs them 11.000 €, so I don't think they'll slow the move down.
Re: Fetch Rover! Jones-ing for Blackburn[R] Actually, it's still on the first page: https://www.bigsoccer.com/forum/showthread.php?t=1603129. I'm going to merge this thread into that one, because it's still less than 100 posts and we can change the title accordingly once this loan is actually made official.
Re: Fetch Rover! Jones-ing for Blackburn[R] That's a lot of cash, I didn't realize teams paid that much in Germany.

Re: Fetch Rover! Jones-ing for Blackburn[R] That's the most important reason why Schalke ran into economic trouble, and had to exchange more or less the entire team. They paid total salaries of 70 million € per year, and needed huge Bundesliga success and CL money every season to stay close to the black. That's impossible in the Bundesliga, where half of the league are competing for the CL spots, and bad seasons will hurt teams like Schalke badly. They had to get rid of the old expensive contracts; Jones is a top earner, and gets 4 millions per year up to 2014. A very good reason to loan/sell him.
Re: Fetch Rover! Jones-ing for Blackburn[R] Assuming this is a loan and not a sale (at least not yet), does Blackburn get to renegotiate the contract or do they normally pay some/all of Jones' salary depending on the exact agreement? Blackburn would seem to have some leverage here to get away with Schalke splitting the salary somehow with them given that Schalke is currently paying a lot for someone their coach decided he doesn't get along with.
Re: Fetch Rover! Jones-ing for Blackburn[R] No idea, that's too complicated to make a general statement.

Re: Fetch Rover! Jones-ing for Blackburn[R] Considering how quickly this went, Jones will likely make his full salary. If this was a down move, like to 'Gladbach/Köln level, Schalke would have probably had to pick up a portion of the salary. €4M is above the average in the Prem, but not that much above the average for a starter. The owners obviously have ambitions here. It's easy to just take over the contract with everyone's consent.

Re: Off the Reservation: Jones goes to Blackburn [R] Just saw a brief clip of Jermaine's press-conference on Sky Sports News. His English was really good. He said he contacted Stu about football in England, and Stu said it's the best. Jones said he can't wait to show what he can do in this league. Really looking forward to his debut.
Re: Off the Reservation: Jones goes to Blackburn [R] I always thought the folks that harped on about him not having any English skills were mistaken or misinformed.

Re: Off the Reservation: Jones goes to Blackburn [R] Best of luck to Jones. This should be entertaining.
