I'm putting the finishing touches on my plans for driving up to the game tomorrow. Can't ****ing wait. If you're parking at the top of the hill, come have a beer with the guy in the Blackburn shirt before kickoff.
So at the risk of hijacking the thread (apologies ), I thought I'd share this recent Silverbacks-inspired entry from my blog. Even though my soccer fandom dates back to 1994, recent weeks with the Silverbacks and Silverbacks fans have reminded me that there is always more to learn and experience in the game. http://ryanmartinshow.blogspot.com/2013/06/atlanta-silverbacks-spirit-of-game-is.html
You are welcome to come sit in section 109 if you like drums. I don't know where we are tailgating this week, but I think most of our group prefer the lower lot. You are welcome to stop by and have a beer.
Depending on how early we get there, we might take a bit a of tour of the grounds and head down that way as well.
I'm really sorry, guys. Last night's dropped points were entirely my fault. Just before Hlavaty took the fateful free kick, I leaned over to my girlfriend and said, "You know, with Edmonton down to ten and just hanging on at this point, these are the opportunities they'll have to take advantage of to get back in it." 0.5 seconds later, I was muttering "son of a bitch" to myself. So what was everyone's view of Stisser's disallowed goal? He looked well on to me, but of course I didn't have the benefit of a replay to confirm my suspicion. Independent of last night's talking points, I was really glad to see such a fantastic crowd on hand for this one. As huge as the Tampa Bay game will likely be, hopefully we'll see that again when it really matters most.
Here's a picture from last night that is both awesome and awful. Awesome because of the sunset, awful because it was taken just a moment before the free kick.
Nice pic. My opinion on the game? We won 2-1, but the ref decided 1-1 was a scoreline he liked better. Our goal was on sides and their free kick was awarded because of a dive.
I agree with you either way, regardless of the arithmetic. Here's to hoping that Fort Lauderdale will be horribly apathetic this week now that their spring hopes are pretty much over.
Borfor Carr and Mike Randolph were on HLN today. The Silverbacks are getting famous before our very eyes. http://www.hlntv.com/video/2013/06/11/soccer-brain-injuries?hpt=hln10_5

I noticed there were a couple "bonus match" tickets that came with my season tix. Anyone have any inside skinny on upcoming friendlies during the summer break or fall/winter post season?
I've not heard anything, but hopefully something comes up. I'd rather not go a month without going to a game.
Red card for Danny. Nice. We should be 3 up on these clowns by now. This is reminding me of the Edmonton away game. Crap. Hope we somehow scratch 3 points outta this...
Okay, I am officially an atheist, but I have to admit I was praying to Santa Claus for that penalty to go in. YEAAAHHH!!!!
Okay - post match recommedation: Since we had 20 million scoring opportunities in the run of play and finished NONE, I recommend Eric Wynalda (goal scoring legend) give a non-stop workshop on finishing during every minute of practice between now and next Saturday. I am serious. We have a tough schedule ahead of us. All the clubs competing for 1st place, and the two toughest ones on the road. This isn't a game, man. Santa Claus dropped us a stocking stuffer today, but we have to get real if we're gonna win this thing.
So I shouldn't have said that about it being a funny old game, should I? In light of the lack of finishing, I'd definitely think about giving Stisser another start against Tampa Bay. Sure, Luna and Pedro might be more physically gifted, but Stisser looked quite efficient with his chances against Edmonton...whether the ref counted them or not. Maybe Herron gets some time next week as well. Obviously good to get the three points, but man, losing the most creative player in the side for these three extremely critical games ahead is as big of a headache as they come. Time to find out what kind of grit this team really has.
To clarify, I assumed that the straight red for violent conduct would automatically be a three game ban as seen in other leagues, but upon further review this morning, it seems that the NASL has some discretion with the length of the ban. Be kind, NASL...be kind.
It appears the Silverbacks had some reputable representation down south last night (photo from FTL Tailgate Show).
