I notice that there are no discussions about Aston Villa. Is this because we're not seen as important here? Surely not!! So, what's going to happen to us next season with no money. Surely O'Leary has to go, tactically he doesn't seem to know his arse from his elbow. He moans about not having centre backs but to my mind we've no width all the way up the field. Then when we get a goal scorer in Moore he's never played (was it 5 goals in 6 games).
O'Leary has hurt the club seriously by not being able to deal with Juan Pablo Angel. That player needed a talking to at the beginning at the of the season on his role in the team. Villa's side didn't look like it would break into the top half of the table this year. I predicted them 11th or 12th at the beginning. But I'm not good at predicting because I thought BCFC was going to be 16th or 15th. But Villa has to get rid of some players, and they HAVE to sign Milner permanently. Also, they must get one good signing even though the money isn't there. Otherwise they will be fighting for survival next year and may end up like Birmingham? Do I want that? No. I want to see all three Midlands clubs to do well.
Eh...We've just got no talent and no money...We had Solano we lost him we had other players, but we just pretty much let them go.
Ahhh you could be worse. Look at us. With Bruce in Charge we might struggle to finish top 10 in the Championship.
Davis, Milner, Baros, Cahill, Villa have talented players, just a horrible chairman, who lacks ambition and bring a club with a lot of tradition and history down. btw there are hardley any Aston Villa fans on here, thats there isn't much of a forum for them, get more villa fans on here and you'll get more of a talk about them.
I agree we've plenty of talent just a poor manager and chairman. We just need to play the right people, okay we've had a few injuries - but who hasn't?? I would like to see more Villa fans too - so don't be shy if you've anything to say here's the place. Who would you most like to see come to Villa in the summer? Sensible answers only please. I too would love to see Henry but it ain't going to happen.
Actually, I don't think it's the manager or the Chairman's ambition. Controversial, I know, but think it through: O'Leary has proven he can scuplt good, attacking and successful sides out of young talent (even if he does need £100m to do it) so whilst he's definitely done some mad things in his time at Villa and his tactics are often a bit weird, he's not a bad manager per se. As to Ellis, there's a ton of things that are shit about him, but the "lack of ambition" thing is always blown out of proportion a bit, I think. Face it, Villa fans, you're a mid-table club from the Midlands. It's not 1982 anymore. And yet, in the past three years, you've spent £23m on players, which is hardly a pittance. Certainly, if you compare it to what Newcastle (for instance) spunk on players every season and what they achieve by return, I don't think it's the funding as such that is the core of the problem. The whole "money = ambition" thing is a bit of a daft preoccupation for football fans anyway. You've got it all the way up the chain now, you've got even Rags fans complaining about ambition in a league where the pacesetter is spending £100m a season - like that should therefore serve as some kind of benchmark. Villa just reek of a club that have reached the end of the line under their present structure, they need new ideas, fresh faces, a different approach to running a football club. None of these need necessarily be radically better than what they have already, just different. They're the epitome of a football club gone very, very stale.
I'm sorry but I have to disagree about the Manager and Chairman. O'Leary can only manage clubs where he has silly money to spend - think back to what he did at Leeds (financially that is). Doug Ellis may have once had ambition but not any more. It wasn't that long ago he went on record as saying that a top ten finish is a success - rubbish. I'm sick of hearing about injuries and excuses from O'Leary, the same was really the same of Steve Bruce. The bottom line is that he constantly picked the wrong tactics for the team. When we got beat by West Ham and he said that he'd told the team after the game that we should be looking up to them and playing like them......they'd just been promoted from the Championship for !@£&'s sake Bottom line - we will never attract the better players (even older one's - Davids for example) for two reasons. 1) We're in the Midlands - sorry but it doesn't hold the attraction of London 2) We lack any form of drive as a club we're just too wishy washy I'm not suprised season ticket sales are falling year on year. Come on Doug get the right man for the job and get your hand in your pocket. If you can't then find some rich Russian who can. That chap who owns Chelsea is doing awfully well!!
Ok Honestly Lets get a new midfield at least 2 players... and 2 new defenders...Lets spice up the club just a little bit...I mean christ the only 3 transfers i remember are Solano, Hitzelberger, and Balaban. We don't want 2 spend money, and we really don't hve the drive. I think it was pretty funny when O'leary first came AV fans were really happy that he was gonna save the club and do all this. Now he is prolly the most hated guys in the stadium...Im not even that big fan of Moore but I wish hed be played more often. I honestly think Barry would be an amazing player if he was given a chance to explore his abilities.
I wish a midlands club could become a top 6 club every year. But neither Villa or Birmingham have the resources to do it.
Villa used to be - in the good old days!! Then we got rid of all our really good players, bought shite ones like Balaban and Angel. Let ones worth money go for nothing like Crouch and what are we left with? I tell you what, a reasonable squad with no ambition. Can you see the likes of Mouriniho accepting the performace even if he did manage Villa instead of Chelsea. He would defend the club to the papers and bollock the players behind closed doors. I tell you I've managed to get Villa to be rulers of Europe on LMA 2005. I don't see what's so difficult about it!!
I realize that being in the U.S. I don't have all of the facts all of the time, but it's my understandning that Villa are a big club. If so, where does all the money (resources) go ?
We are a reasonable size - no Chelsea or Man Utd. However, with the decreasing performance comes a decrease in the attendance. People will not pay £25 or whatever to go and what either an average game or worse to see your game team get beat by another average team. For so long we've put up with mediocrity and now it's getting to the point where people have had enough. We need some revenue and some spirit and quick!! Mr Abramovich - HELP US!!
No resources? Last season Bolton finished sixth, how much money did they have? How much money did Blackburn have this season? What about Wigan or West Ham, who both finished a mile ahead of every midlands team? Enough with the excuses.
Yep, you're right. But they did it the right way buy two players for how much Villa spend on one. Remember that West Ham spent £7million on Dean Ashton, Blackburn have a proven goal scorer in Craig Bellemy and Wigan had two pacey forwards. Also they both have inspirational management and both teams had drive. Bolton again have spirit and a good manager.....that's what I keep saying. It's the drive behind the club as much as the players. That is why Big Sam would have been the better choice for an English national coach. I don't think McClaren is very inspirational, but let him prove me wrong. I'm waiting to see Owen, Defoe, Rooney and Crouch up front with just Terry and Ferdinand at the back!!!
Here is the better question who do Aston Villa need to buy to become a top club. Asene Wenger, a couple of half decent full backs with some pace. (why didn't we go for Wayne Bridge). Then a decent striker, someone like Dean Ashton or Darren Bent. Last summer we could have probably got good money for Angel but instead chose to get rid of Vassell for silly money and buy.......oh yeah Bouma - slow as a slug!
Angel was supposed 2 be it kid out of River Plate...wait that was Saviola lol. Anyway ehhh I think the full backs are fine. Just a totally new midfield with speed would be nice.
No way. Who have we got Bouma - the Dutch international who is slow and can't stop a pig in an alley. Delaney who is alright, but getting on a little bit and been prone to injury and again isn't the quickest off the mark and the almighty J Lloyd Samual - fantastic!! Always moaning about not getting a place and can we reveal the reason - oh yes it's 'cos he's shit. We've always been strong in defence, not really scored loads but not let many in either. Maybe a couple of reasonable midfielders, probably a good attacking and good holding players would be nice, but I stand by my full backs and a good striker.
Not considered a big team. Why should they be if they finish near the relegation zone?! But I can understand why Villa fans are pissed off. Villa is the biggest club in the Midlands and probably should be doing better in the league. Winning two league cups in the past fifteen years is a poor return. Doug has to go, since Villa won't be a Premiership force whilst he's around. Part of being a successful football club is having an ambitious ownership. Man U, Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool, Spurs all have that. Villa need that if they want to improve or get the success they reckon they deserve.
http://www.football-rumours.com/dodgy.htm There is also a rumour that Dortmund striker Jan Koller could join Aston Villa. And then, Hannover 96 will host Villa for a friendly on 5AUG. Looking forward to that one.
