http://www.avfc.co.uk/page/NewsDeta...151987410146471&fb_action_types=og.recommends I guess that's the Charities Cup game. July 26 is a Saturday. The Dynamo game at New York was originally on July 26 but that game being rescheduled to April 23 opened up the weekend.
To be honest, this is about as good as I expected. Obviously, I would have loved to have had Everton here but AVFC is a good one. Several good players even though they've had a poor season by their standards. The only issue I could see is that Benteke, provided Belgium go far in the World Cup, may be taking holiday around that time although he may have to be here as per terms of the deal. Guzan, Agbonlahor, and Weinmann all good players. Not a lot of household names though. Either way, I'm happy with it. Yeah, I know we'd all love to have Real Madrid or Bayern Munich here but lets just be honest. That ain't happening.
Before the Dynamo were here, did you go to the exhibition match at Roberston Stadium between Chivas de Guadalajara and River Plate? Rainy and cold but it was great !!!! Still won't forget it and River Plate had a stacked team. Among the players: Ariel Ortega Martin Demichelis Andres D'Alessandro Maxi Lopez I think River won 2-0. I'd be ok with Boca Juniors coming here. (EDIT: Check out River's team from that time...I forgot Cambiasso and Cavenaghi) http://www.worldfootball.net/teams/river-plate/2002/2/
You mean a team that has a front chest sponsor of BBVA, when are they most successful team from the Western Hemisphere coming to BBVA Stadium?!? Apparently not in 2012, 2013 nor once again in 2014. I remember that game in 2003 as well as the match in July of 2002 at The Rob between Boca Jrs. and Club America. The Rob was PACKED and it was a tremendous end to end encounter. The jeers between Argies and Mexicans is always great entertainment!
Yeah, it would make sense to have Boca Juniors here wouldn't it. Probably why it hasn't happened yet. Makes too much sense.
I didn't catch it but wish that I did. I was gone a lot from Houston back then. I figured that Boca, or even River Plate would be an excellent draw anywhere, but I've always thought that the BBVA tie would be a bit more fruitful for us footie fans. We did get Valencia though, which was excellent.
As a charity game, it needs to be a team that balances appeal with cost. If Barcelona or Boca came, they would have to charge more per seat than average fans could pay, I'm thinking. I'm good with it.
Nice !! We stood the whole time in the lower section. I remember that River had a group of supporters in the southern end but if I recall, the place was dominated by Chivas supporters. I think I still have my ticket stub somewhere.
Yeah I agree. If Everton came, we'd have to pay five times the going rate for Barca or AC Milan. That's just how it is.
Eh, I don't care about who the opposition are, or where they come from. I still want the Dynamo to slap their mothers and kick their dogs.
i like this as a charity game opponent. BTW, isn't AVFC the sister club for the Rapids? if so, it would make sense to come over here for a week or two and pair up with the Rapids along with a few other games like ours...
Stan Kroenke owns the Rapids and is the largest shareholder of Arsenal. He also owns other sports teams. Randy Lerner used to own the Cleveland Browns and now owns Aston Villa.
The Dynamo had another team lined up (don't know who) but that team backed out 1-2 months or so ago. Considering they had limited time to come up with plan B, Aston Villa is a decent result.
I'm not up on my English football. Are these the Dallas Cowboys or that Khaleesi chick from Game of Thrones.
Aston Villa announce U.S. summer tour http://espnfc.com/news/story/_/id/1...tour-matches-fc-dallas-houston-dynamo?cc=5901
Aston Villa are one of those mid-table teams that can win against any team. You can never take them lightly. This season they seem to win the matches that they are supposed to lose, and then lose to teams that they are supposed to beat.
I'm looking forward to the matchup between the Dynamo Reserves/Pittsburgh Riverhound Starters and and an EPL squad!
