The Ugo example would seem to imply that Bob wouldn't hold the Salvadorean flirtation against Alvarez.

Bob's a grown up and understands the bid'ness of soccer.

I think FIFA understands that. Im pretty sure USA has the same rules?

You don't have to take an oath, just have proof of your parents citizenship. Because you are already a citizen, you are just getting a piece of paper (Passport) printed off.

You've got the causality backwards here. There wasn't a problem with France et al. poaching players after they showed promise with their "home" country, there was a problem with France et al. throwing age-group caps at anyone and everyone just to tie them up, regardless of whether they expected them to fit in in the future or not. Remember, the status quo ante was that an official age-group appearance irrevocably cap-tied a player; now, players have limited latitude to undo that tie.

And this a vis a versa rule for Americans born overseas to American parents. It is called jus soleatus. In the States you are an American citizen if born on inside the country or a US held territory. (Excluding conflicted ones) That's called jus soli. In some countries you need both to be called a citizen.

this is funny, it's just a culture clash: FIFA polite bureaucrat speak versus Central American legalese, they choose not to understand each other

Well, first, pro soccer players have a LOT of downtime on their hands. I'm willing to bet a lot of them spend plenty of time on the internet looking at some kind of nonsense.

Second, I don't think the FIFA regulations about NT affiliation qualify as "inane bullshit," at least not if you're a pro player or that player's agent. Surely part of an agent's job is to know whether his or her client can swap NT affiliations. At a bare minimum, I'd expect my agent to look into that question BEFORE anybody started making public statements about switching.

I mean, I can't imagine anybody posting this to a entertainment industry forum:

I have to agree with grumpy on this one. I mean his agent should have a least known even if Arturo didn't. I'm sure most players with a chance to play for two countries know the change of nation rules.

this presumes the agent has the best interest of his client in mind, when doing the job

Sure. But if he doesn't, that's hardly a defense for screwing up, right?

What agent made money by having "the best interest" of the player in mind?

Cute, but wouldn't Alvarez playing internationally be both good for him and his agent in that the agent wants him to have a higher profile so he can get him bigger contracts and make more money?

when alvarez got his u-20 play, an agent, then, would be far more interested in placing him is a good club situation...

the country aspect, who knows how much thought his agent put into it...

and whether said agent even KNEW the capping rules...

My answer to that is seeing where you are in the world, does Benni McCarthy make more money from the Baha Boys or Blackburn Rovers?

Would a player be better off in the PSL or the EPL?

If I'm a South African and know that country is great but club pays the bills; would I'd rather play for a club that gives 500 rand plus the SAFC gives me 500 per apperance or go to a club that pays 1,000 rand a week plus the SAFC apperance fee.

    If you said Blackburn
    EPL
and 1,000 rand then you see what the agent sees.

Reports out of El Salvador are stating that national team coach Carlos de los Cobos, is also chasing former US national team junior member and current FC Dallas player Steve Purdy to join the national team.

Purdy is of German-Salvadoran decent, but was born in the US which inturn makes him eligable for selection to all three countries. Although like Alvarez, it seems the Salvadoran football federation has left it to late, as he too already seems to be cap tied. Apart from that, he has shown little interest in a possible switch to the El Salvador national team, and has stated that his first choice is to play with the US.

Why would they be chasing Steve Purdy? He's 24, and has NEVER played a professional first-team game in his career.

It's like they're scouring MLS rosters looking for possible players. Which is fine, I guess.

lololol...funny..but that's what all national teams do and they should. You never know who's going to turn out to be a good player in the future. That's what bradley did with the player from pachuca and that's what he should have done w/ another mexican american who chose to play w/ mexico because we never called him up to the national team.
I guess it sucks for the player if he gets called up to any given team and then never gets called up again, and he could have been playing regularly for another national team. Does anyone know what the status of arturo alvarez is? Is he gonna play with el salvador or not?
As far as this guy steve purdy goes, i think he was playing in germany for munich 1860 if i'm not mistaken.

As expected, it looks like Alvarez is switching to El Salvador and leaving the USA program.
