To be fair, the Revs rights were purchased right when 98.5 started up. It would make sense for a new-format new-station to pick up a cheap property like that
Actually Sports Hub was on the air for 6 months prior. Revs announced it Mar 24,2010 they were going to the Sports Hub.
That's right about the start of the "Achowat Driving Around Listening To Sports Radio" epoch. Were games radio-casted before 2010?
You ever look at the ratings for the 2 sports radio stations? People absolutely care about what the local media says. The number of sports tv and radio shows on every week in Boston is incredible. They wouldn't be on the air if no one cared what they say - people can get scores anywhere, Boston fans can get enough of opinionated sports b.s. You are right that the media doesn't want to alienate Kraft either, but the media (particularly our local media) can be extremely passive aggressive if they feel they've been dissed. There's a million little ways they can twist the knife if they want. They can treat Gronk dancing with strippers as a "boys will be boys" harmless bit of fun, or they can make a big deal out of it and pressure the team to do/say something. Kraft recently got caught with his pants down - all he got was a little teasing and ribbing - hardly a fraction of what he could have gotten.
Mr. cho-wat I appreciate your use of epoch in lieu of era. Perhaps in a few more years you can claim a sports radio eon. Color me dubious however, because usually frustration and sports radio negativity bias will become unbearable after a couple years.
Yup, fans and potential fans totally care what they say on sports radio... ...which is why it's totally inane that the Revs make no effort to break into that medium at all. The only times they ever go on to "talk about the Revs", they spend 99% of the time talking about the Pats, the man-mall, and other things that have nothing to do with the other sports franchise which they own. Krafts suck.
