Losing at home to Slovenia last month was a huge setback to their campaign. I think it could even have been one of a few other factors (like the USA's huge surge in the June WCQs) that ultimately pushed Aron to make his decision.
It was probably a combo of the reality of the US always qualifying, Iceland's best chance seemingly going down in flames quickly, Earnie Stewart, and possibly Jozy (maybe not, but who knows).
I think Jozy had a little to do with it cause he did go and post a pic of him and Jozy and said teammates again.
Really excited...he's a fantastic player and has been doing very well with AZ preseason plus he's also very young. I think he could see some time in the WC in a backup role. He should without a doubt be on the roster as I'd rate him over Gomez and Wondo already.
Perhaps idol is too strong...maybe just an icon. However, I am neither a German or Spurs fan, but I thought he was a great player.
I know the saying never say never when you mean hardly ever holds to be a good standard. However, it is extremely unlikely any of them make it. EJ and Gomez are both ahead of them. Wondo was prob not going anyway. The other two are both very young and playing at a lower level. It's an up hill battle for them.
Boyd has had his chances, limited, but chances and hasn't really done much. He needs a MONSTER season with Vienna to get anywhere near Brazil. That's fine, he's young and if he continues to develop he'll feature in 2018 and possibly '22. Jack Mac wasn't going to make it this year unless he absolutely went off in MLS and others fell apart that were ahead of him. Like Boyd, he'll be around for 2 more cycles. Wondo had his shot, and impressed, but it looks like it might have been more of the competition. I doubt he goes at this point unless there are some injuries. At best, he's a 65-70th minute sub when you need a goal. Herc is the interesting one. Last year he was a starter. He's fallen behind Jozy and now Demps is playing up top as well. Herc's play has also dipped a little (not drastically) and he's been injured this spring and summer. He needs to stay healthy and have a good season with Xolos.
Since losing Ocegueda wasn't much of a loss for the program, I'd say it more than makes up for it. By a lot.
Considering this is likely the last hurrah for Donovan and Dempsey in Brazil...You need quality to fill those voids. Aron, Boyd and McInerney will have large roles in the next cycle me thinks.
Of course. For me, spending part of my childhood in England and growing up a Liverpool fan, I identify Klinsmann with spurs.
On the field? First they play different positions. Second, it's too early to tell. Third, I really hate discussing this, because I feel so bad for Stu, but I think Aron is playing at a higher level now than Stu was before he got hurt. Now the place where I don't think Aron can replace Stu is lockeroom chemistry as it seems Holden was everyone's favorite.
you can play EJ or Donovan at right mid (wing speed play) and Altidore and Johannsson and Dempsey up top .. this is getting to be a very fun and deep pool for Klinsman to pick from.
