I searched this forum and there seems to be no thread on Mr. Johannsson. Now that he has seemingly intimated that he would be open to playing for us I think it would be great to have one. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aron_Jóhannsson - His Wiki https://www.bigsoccer.com/community/threads/aron-jóhannsson-in-denmark.1974288/ - His first YA Thread https://www.bigsoccer.com/community/...n-jóhannsson-under-the-verbeek-wings.1981905/ - Current YA Thread Props to Frankball for posting this article. Hopefully we get an interview from a US source soon.
i didn't even know he was at AZ this season. shows how closely i've been paying attention. and there is this thread: https://www.bigsoccer.com/community/...-jóhannsson-leads-denmark-in-scoring.1974305/
apparently he got called in today against utrecht and got a late goal, his first for the club (jozy got a hatrick btw).
The highlight in the YA thread was short but it looked like a very well taken goal, settle in the box, nutmeg (or push around marker) and finish.
Johansson and Altidore up front. Donovan and Dempsey behind them. Bradley and Jones the CMs. Fabian, Gonzo/Besler. Cameron/Parkhurst/Brooks, Dolo/Chandler Howard/Guzan Good team.
From Jozy Interview: On talking to Aron Johannsson about playing for the USMNT: "We've had (the discussion) once or twice. I think he's definitely open to (playing for the U.S.). I don't think he’s 100% made up his mind. I think he's leaning more towards Iceland at this point, but he's open to it. It's a unique thing for him, a unique opportunity for him. I think the opportunity of going to a World Cup pleases him a lot. We'll have to see. He's a really good player, a player I expect to see a lot of good things from. http://espnfc.com/blog/_/name/soccerusa/id/2250?cc=5901
This makes me hopeful. Knowing he has a good chance of playing in Brazil is very tempting for him. It may make him lean towards us in the near future.
http://www.uefa.com/worldcup/season=2014/standings/round=2000294/group=2001660/index.html Still second place. wow this is a pretty weak group. We could provably finish 1st or second in this group.
This guy is a natural goals scorer. I don't think he'll play for us though. Iceland will probably finish 2nd and the probably be enough to tip his hands to play in a playoff...anything could happen from there.
His agent says that the USA are keeping track of him. Per Facebook: The coaching staff of the USA national team is monitoring Aron Jóhannsson. http://www.elfvoetbal.nl/nieuws/263337_klinsmann-volgt-ontwikkeling-amerikaan-johannsson-nu-al In his passport indeed that Aron Johannsson is Icelandic. But that did not [give an excuse for] Jurgen Klinsmann to travel to Alkmaar to follow. Developing the AZ striker from his assistant coach Andreas Herzog Johannsson was born in the U.S. [in the city of] Mobile and may in the future play for Team USA. Obviously Herzog looked also [to scout] Jozy Altidore. That was [when] 54 minutes [in, he left] the field for Johansson. Before the news: Jozy Altidore speaks about Aron Jóhannsson: "We've had (the discussion) once or twice.
Fortunately we don't have to win the hex. I wonder if he looks though at the fact that we will likely be in every cup in his playing career and really the stars have to align properly for Iceland to get out of its group each 4 years. They do also though have the Euro Champs, which gives him the opportunity to play in a meaningful qualification tourney pretty regularly if he stays with Iceland. The kid looks pretty good though. He needs some meat on his bones, a little of the Mobile BBQ would suit him pretty good.
i'm interested to see if it's going to be the qualifier-types or if JK is going to bring in a bunch of randoms to see what happens
yeah but that's like saying there are, ehem, large people living near mcdonald's, the food can't be that bad!
Offtopic, but if southern food traditions (including BBQ) float your boat, you should check this out. A documentary project out of Ole Miss that produces some great short films. http://southernfoodways.org/documentary/film/index.html Cut / Chop / Cook is a favorite
