Is Aron capable of turning the table by scoring the all important goals? His form the last few matches is expressed by another dismall rating of 4 out of 10 by Voetbal International for his weekend performance. Coach Advokaat is rather mild on him by saying that it is Aron's first whole season on this level. Now he knows what he is up against to for next season.
Advocaat is so smooth, and he's apparently approached Bols, Cooymans, Darna, DeKuyper, Dwersteg, Jansen, Verpoorten, Warninks and Warners on the transfer market.
They have one, but have looked threatening several times. Fantastic Salvio cross finds Rodrigo. 1-0 Benfica, 40th min.
Not that I counted, but it seems most of his touches came in the first 20 minutes. Benfica have been controlling play since then. Me and my big mouth, eh?
At least half of Benefica's lineup are going to be on big Champs League teams in the next 5 years, right?
Gotta give credit to AZ and Aron though they made a fantastic run especially for a middle-upper/middle table Eredivisie team. They've played the Portuguese leaders (Benefica) respectably.
You'd think with his slight frame he'd have a bit of a problem vs. better defenders, but in both matches including this one Aron has held the ball up quite well. He just made a really nice run in the 64th but unfortunately he the through ball was never passed.
Salvio's first touch to stop the ball on the line... that was sublime. Stopped it on a dime. 3-0. PS: Right now Benfica has 3 Brazilians, 3 Argentinians, and 1 Paraguayan on the field.
Our man on duty for Benfica-AZ wasn’t impressed with Aron Johannsson tonight. #USMNT #EuropaLeague pic.twitter.com/UWa7d5qcuT— Jon Arnold (@ArnoldcommaJon) April 10, 2014
Not sure what he could have really done seeing that he didn't see much of the ball in the final third
Luisao & Garay are, arguably, a formidable CB pair, able to take almost anyone out of a game. Aron was alone. There's no way he could have created anything on his own, when faced with such experienced defenders.
