Man of the match for me was the RFO on this one ... all the draft picks and academy products looked really good. Kindle looked better than Wallace. Serna had a great game. Powers and Brown showed they are MLS quality. Worried about Rivero's ankle.
Not sure what to make of this second half offense. Lots o' long balls and not a lot of play making. Rivero makes a difference, though LaBrocca looks good. I saw some good individual perf. at times from LaBrocca, Serna, Powers, Brown, but putting it all together on offense did not happen. Much trouble making something happen.
The draft class is looking really good. Powers was strong on the ball and passed pretty well. Brown got into some nice positions. Kindle looked good at left back and had some great offensive plays.
Well, aside from this, Portland looked good, especially in the second half. But given the unmeshed new and young players fielded by CO... I guess it's not surprising. Offensively CO needs some work still to be competetive.
I was not impressed with Martinez at all he seemed to lose the ball quite a bit from tackles or bad passes.
Martinez also TINY (Honduran trialist Martinez, there were two Martinezes today). I know you don't need to be big to be a goal scorer (Messi), but you've gotta have something to make up for that lack of size, and I'm not sure Martinez had it. I did like his hair though.
Agree completely, I'm worried that this was Portland and not SKC or SJ. The Rapids had good possession but had to work the ball hard upfield and didn't have much in the final third.
You imply wrong, all anyone has said is Serna needs more time to physically develop. He needs games and 10-12 is not enough that reserves provides. Ahh, youth teams put him in against guys of equal physical development. Portland may be in MLS but so is Colorado and no one defines either as the cream of the Western conference crop. Do you even know what his stats were in 2012, is this your definition of dominate? How many points did he have over last 15 akron games? Did you even read any posts from Akron fan about Serna on our boards? So, since you put so much on his play today. So, if he has a horrible next game will you be calling for his release based on that game? I will not, just not expecting any serious minutes from him in 2013.
I thought Kindle, Powers, and Serna all had good games (impressed with Serna), while Klute and Martinez looked pretty poor.
The quality of the broadcast made it a little hard to see who was involved in play. The really low camera angle didn't help either. However, like most of the above I thought that the new kids looked pretty good-- Kindle especially, but also Powers, Serna, and Brown. Wallace looked a little poor. Kindle seemingly had a better game, but of course, Kindle was going against a weaker Timbers line up. LaBrocca played well. I thought that neither Thomas or Mastroeni were particularly good in midfield. Rivero was good. To me it looked like his injury was probably just a bad knock but nothing structural. Fingers crossed.
First preseason match. The result is meaningless. It was a sloppy affair, with a lot of guys just working the kinks out. I thought Calderon looked good in the back. Rivero looked better than I expected while he was in. Harris and Hill did better than I expected. Pablo and Hendry looked a bit rusty and out of sync. Defense was a bit shaky in the first half, but they had three new guys playing back there, so not surprising that Portland was able to break through a couple times. That said, I thought Wallace did well for as much pressure as he saw. I missed most of the second half, but the new guys impressed. I though Serna and Brown looked good. Agree with comments about Martinez. The guy looked like he was trying to impress a bit much, and ended up failing. Overall it was just nice to see the guys out there again.
there is nothing to make of it... it was the first preaseason game of the season... the only thing to take from it is rivero's injury
