Hey guys, i didn't find a thread pertaining to Arias. I was wondering how he was doing? I saw he wasn't called to the league game.
Havent seen much of him lately, he joined the squad late. perhaps in cup matches he can get playing opportunities or when Joao Pereira receives red card/suspension (which is a risk for any Sporting CP player playing in the anti-Sporting Portuguese league but even more because Joao Pereira is known as a hot head player)
Doubt he'll play at all this season, he'll have a similar role that Cedric did last year. If JP gets a suspension Pereirinha will fill in for him.
He'll play in domestic cup games. Pereirinha shouldn't being playing in those IMO, at least if the way he is being utilized now continues (starts or subs) and as a midfielder. We, as a club, are loaded at RB. JP, Goncalves, Cedric, Arias. Something will eventually have to give. I hope it's not JP (Tottenham and an italian team have come calling).
I think we are lining up to cash in on JP, smart move to me. He'll be 28 by the end of the season, his highest value is right now, and we have able players waiting in the wings that will be longer term solutions. JP and BP +Arias a little this season, then Cedric, Goncalves and Arias fight it out next summer. Nice problem to have.
JP isn't even that good to be honest, if we get an offer of 10+mil (which is being rumored) I'd sell in a heart beat. Way too much of a liability defensively and as Nate said is getting up there in age. Cedric has the potential to be twice the player he is.
