Argentinos in USA (R)

Hello
I was wondering how many players from Argentina are currently playing in the MLS? Are they any good? And last If futbol became more popular in the U.S and more profitable for the players do you think foreign players from South America would chose the U.S over Europe?

i heard and saw on a site that gustavo barros-schelloto is playing in puerto rico. other than that there are some decent ones playing in the mls.

Both Matias Donnet and Christian Gomez play for DC United.

gustavo barros schelotto plays for the Puerto Rico A-League team. I think there might be some other argentines on that team.

I do know that the Argentinians on DC United have definitely raised the level of play for the side. I don't know if there is a better playmaker than Cristian Gomez in MLS. And I think that Adu has learned a little about professionalism from Gomez. I was very skeptical of Erpen, but he's had a very solid year in the back line.

I had a chance to see Dario Sala make some incredible saves in the game vs. the Rapids. Overall, I think the Argentinians in MLS have made a much better impact than other players from South America in the league (i.e., Brasil, Chile, Uruguay).

Yep Dario Husain plays with the Islanders.

They also have Luis Fernando Zuleta who used to play for Gimnasia.

He did start against the Rapids last week and had a great game (the bastard).

Christian Gomez has had a great 2.5 years at DC United. He was a great signing and a great piece of scouting. Part of it is that he found a role that suits him very well, attacking midfielder who really gets forward like a center forward...also he has worked hard. If I'm not mistaken, he's in better physical condition, a bit stronger, than he was when he was younger.

Agree. Erpen is solid in the backline, the boy has a vicious rocket of a shot and can do some amazing bicycle kicks.

I wish Filomeno was given a longer shot in DC, I really think he could have become something special here with more time on the starting line up.

He doesn't play behind Hislop. Sala was injured, and while he was injured, Shaka started. Now that Sala is healthy, he has taken over as the starting keeper again.

I never realized Sala has all that experience. Pretty impressive.

Hola, Sergio! It is definitely not more profitable to play in the US as compared to Europe, but I'd have to think there is more certainty of success (playing time) and of a longer career in the top division. When he was asked about it, Christian Gomez said his concern was for his family, that he was certain the checks would cash while playing in MLS. Plus, there is not the constant attention to the players because soccer in the US is not as central a focus as in Europe and South America. Several Sudamericanos, including Carlos "El Pibe" Valderrama, Eduardo "El Tanque" Hurtado, Marco "El Diablo" Etcheverry, Jaime Moreno and others have played in MLS. The quality of soccer is not as good as you'll find in several European leagues, but it is not bad, and continues to improve.

It is interesting to note that DC United has never been successful without an Argentino in the lineup: 1996-98 with Mario Gori, 1999 with Diego Sonora, 2004-Present with Gomez.

Mario Gori wasn't in the lineup much at all...but fans loved him anyway for the all-out attitude and *ahem* physical play he brought when he did get some playing time.

Although I completly hate his brother, there is a good article in ole with Gustavo Schelloto and his playing in PR. (its' in spanish).

I watched DC United alot while I was in the US, not least because of all the argentines (and there's more in the US than I thought).

Filomeno even went to my Argentine school... the ONE saturday I was in Baltimore
