If I were either Pele or Maradona, I would rather have myself be the junkie and only hurt myself then to leave my kids to be junkies, drug-traffickers, and end up in prison for 10+ years (Yes, Pele, I am looking at you...)

It really is sad that in football this days, Brazil has become so European that all it is lacking for it to be European completely is the location...

Since the next Copa America is in Argentina, it would be pretty embarrasing and humiliating if Argentina didn't win it. They've only hosted one previous Copa America and Uruguay won it. However, if you count Copa America's as well as South American Championships (together) then Argentina is 5/8 (hosted 8, won 5 of them).

While i'd want it be to be held in Argentina, probably for the sake of the thing it would be better being hosted by Brazil. Seeing that there is like no movement or news or anything regarding of what will Argentina do for the next Copa América like the stadiums, transport, hospitaly for the teams, etc. There's nothing at all yet. What are they waiting for? A threat from the CONMEBOL to give it to anyone else?

Last time I heard, Copa America hosting goes in roughly alphabetical order from now on (hence Argentina hosting the next one). Is this true?

In theory that was going to be the criteria used since 1987, in the way some couldn't do it, that's why it didn't follow alphabetical order in the period 1987-2007.

I don't see how this attempt can end up any different than the last.

Me neither, but once again we know that after Argentina, Bolivia should be doing it, then Brazil, then Chile, etc.

Considering how some countries (Brazil) have been devaluing the Copa America, I don't think anyone would mind a crappy hosted Copa America by a "lesser" Conmebol country.

It won't be neutral. Have you seen US "home" games everytime the friendly's against Mexico or anyone from Central or South America? It's like the entire population of these countries is in the stands, especially if the matches are in the Southwestern US (for obvious geographical reasons).

    Re: Copa America 2011

That is one of the lamest excuses I have heard.

USSF picks those certain venues because they know it will be a sold out event. That is why friendlies with Mexico are mostly held in the Southwest. For Costa Rica, the only place we could get significant backing in a match is Miami.

USA has plenty of venues where they can feel at home i.e. Columbus, OH, Kansas City, Philadelphia.

On the Copa America, the tournament should not be moved to anywhere but South America. It is the longest international event being held and it will not be any good to "taint" it by letting "richer" nations host it.

    I can't wait for Argentina '11.

    Re: Copa America 2011

    this is a stupid idea
i can agree with 2 teams tops from the concacaf
    maybe 4
copa america should not have any other countries that are not from the americas
either copa america should combine with the gold cup and just have one major tournament in the americas
then it would truly be a copa america
played every 4 years after the euro
it could be 16 teams with the last 6 teams coming from the concacaf
the concacaf could put up 3 to 4 solid teams to compte with the big boys of conmebol

and im mad that team usa is invited to the 2011 copa america (according to wikipedia)
that is horse shit considering team usa doesn't even care about that tournament
just a waste of a spot

but if it were to become a north and south american copa america, then i can see the usa and mexico hosting it
and yes, mexico has the capability to host the copa america
    easy!!!

but having teams from over seas continents is not a good idea
    it's stupid
europe has their championship, so does africa and so does asia
i would like to see the copa america be between both the north and south continents
that would make it really exciting by getting the best players on all the teams competing every 4 years
if they need to have a qualifying tournament for the concacaf teams that would be fine by me

Awesome idea with having just a single tournament for both South and North America. Of course I say this as an American. A Brazilian or an Argentinian may not have the same sentiment. I have been saying for a while now that something needs to be done so that USA and Mexico can have some better competition than playing against Cuba. This would be excellent. I hope that the US brings their best squad down to Copa America 2011 because I would like to see how they would do with their top squad. We heard a lot of excuses when they got rocked last time. If they are going to send their B Squad down there again then don't even bother.

I would say bring at most 6 of the north and have it every 4 years, no more no less.
