I'd like to think they are.... Here in Groningen we're 2 for 2 anyways, some pretty convincing statistics if you ask me.....
Maybe there's a fundamentally incompatibility between the north east of the netherlands and latin americans.
Personally, I'd blame Ajax But then that's my answer to everything. Good luck on the whole situation. I can't see him staying after this though.
thank you for starting this thread !!!! ..... Suarez especially pisses me off ... and i cannot stand how many times he is going down in the box untouched .. its becoming at least twice a game. he is ruining the sport, and hes embarassing himself ...and i thank god that he is on 020 because it makes me hate them even more. i hope he plays out his career there. it would be nice if the league implemented some review board.... id love to see this a**hl get a season suspension for his antics
We have two Uruguayans in Benfica, Maxi Pereira and Cristián Rodriguez (a.k.a. Cebola). They're both no-nonsense, hardworking chaps; so no, not all of them are assholes.
Just read that that Silva arse is still on strike. You might find this difficult to believe in the week of the Twente v Groningen grudge match, but more and more Twente fans sympathise with you people up north. Don't let 020 bully you and let them pay full price for him! I heard that there's a big group travelling to Enschede this weekend, is that right?
I'm pretty much out of the loop nowadays. I remember some ugly scenes in Diekman though. Enough with this Groningen-Twente grudges already. No sense in it at all. There're about a million theories about how it all got started. I read a book called "A year with Verona" (or something) about Italian football some years back, and in Italy it is sometimes actually possible to support each others teams whilst playing each other, and root for them as well!!
Even though I admire Suarez's skill (and I happen to think that he's an improvement over Babel at that position) I have to agree that Suarez is pretty much a twat. I do hope that he can smooth out the, er, rough edges in his game. He has recently commented that he intends to do that. We'll see. I generally don't appreciate the Uruguayan style of football. I remember watching U.S. - Uruguay at the recent U-20 World Championships (in which Suarez was one possibly the lone bright spot for Uruguay) and found them extremely cynical, negative and unsporting -- not really what you want in a youth tournament. Strangely enough, Brazil behaved the same way. So the answer to your question may well be something approaching "yes."
They were sore losers against the USA in the U-20s. At the end of the game they shoved our players and #7 sneaked up on Michael Bradley and kicked him in the legs. That's why Bradley had to be restrained and why he was yelling at #7 and showing him the score. Keep an eye on #7 Cardaccio sneaking up on Bradley at 5:10 in this video. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=slq3MVbiPU4
I wouldn't call us saints but you've gotta admit central and south american teams tend to lack discipline and class. I dont how many episodes of spitting, diving, and cheap shots that tend to come from them when they're losing. Not all teams but enough to point out a trend.
There's a difference between being chippy and being comptetitive and acting the way these guys did when it was obvious they were going to lose. The U.S., and most other teams in the tournament for that matter, were on the right side of that line. Uruguay, Brazil and -- as you'll soon see -- Chile were on the wrong side, and I think most neutrals watching their matches will agree. As bad as Uruguay and Brazil were, Chile was far and away the worst. Observe:
You may have a point there, Chile's U-21 team got into a fight with the police here in Toronto last summer. The cops had to use pepper spray and Tazers just to control them
that player, snatching the card, should be banned for a long long long time. its about time the FIFA introduces some draconion rules to get rid of disrespect for the ref and to end schwalbes.
NOOO. It was definately Portugal. The game was between Chile and Portugal so it couldn't be Brasil or Angola. I watched the vid 3 times!!!
potugal is in white. look at the logo. portugal plays with nike sponsor and has names ending with -ão. also the names ending with an s-tone have an s and not a z. if it where spanish names it would be an Z. portuguese names have an s. ( Gomes-portuguese, Gomez- Spanish)
The teenager Zequinha was suspended for a year by the Federation for taking the refs red card off his hand in a teenage competition. Scolari, an older man with age to be his grand parent, with far greater responsibility in his hands and should know better, had a 4 game ban for punching a Serb player during a match of qualification for Euro 2008. Oh, but one is a Brazilian world champion the other is not. That would explain the disparity...
Maybe, but taking a ref's card is unheard of. Disrespecting a referee in that manner would automatically get you more punishment than assaulting a player only because ref's demand more respect. Not to mention this was at a FIFA world tournament, where the whole WORLD was watching, supposedly. It is obvious why they would react in such a manner.
