I was thinking a bit about this yesterday. Would a good/bad showing as far as attendance goes with the new WPS Atlanta Beat have any impact on the chances of getting an MLS team? It could be a good venue for advertising the group I would think. I wasn't around the last time they were here so if they have completely different supporters then say the Silverbacks or a men's MLS team would I don't know.
It is mostly soccer moms and their kids, so about half of what makes up a MLS crowd, but not really the supporters club portion of it. However, I would like to support the team, although I heard that they are looking to play in Kennesaw. I'm deffinately not driving from Lawrenceville to Kennesaw on a weeknight, and chances are not good for a weekend either.
I will attend a couple games...def cant buy season tickets since i work alot and they are playing in Kennesaw but going to at least 2 games is a given for me
Ya there website said they haven't announced where they are playing yet but it will be in the "northwest corridor of the city" so it is clearly pointing to the new 8,300 seat stadium in Kennesaw. I don't blame you for not wanting to drive all the way from Lawrenceville, I wouldn't either if I lived there. I actually live in Smyrna though so right up 75 for me, I am sure I will check out an early game and see if I want to go to several more or not.
Not meaning to be a horse's patoot, but if I could drive from Powder Springs to freakin' Clarkston all those years, and then to Spaghetti Junction from the Marietta Square, I think you could manage to get to Kennesaw at least a couple of times. I'm with you on driving over here on weeknights, though; don't blame you a bit. I wouldn't do it either, and I live over here. Hopefully, we won't have to worry about that. I'm more concerned that we haven't heard a peep out of them since they announced the team name, when the original Beat were already advertising by this time (sure, they had a leg up, being owned by Cox and all, but still...).
I'll be out there for sure through April. Not sure how often I'll be able to make the trip from Augusta once I'm out of school but I'm sure we'll make it up at least once during the summer for a ~family outing~.
If there is enough support for a women's pro soccer league, there must be enough support for a men's ACC or SEC soccer team in Georgia!
The support is not the question; it's whether or not the universities in question (UGA and Tech) want to not only foot the bill for a men's soccer program, but also, in turn, foot the bill for the women's sports they'd have to conjure up in order to meet Title IX.
Kennesaw if mile away from where i live, so decided against the season tickets option. But i did buy 2 flexi packs for the family. With the Lady Silverback season pass as well should give me a fair bit of live football for the summer
