Aerick, I side more with you politically than many on this forum, but it's your fault your day started poorly. You listened to Bob "i'm a ned flanders wannabe that has a voice that rips ear drums to shreds" Lonsberry. That guy is a clueless idiot living in New York. He's the worst radio personality on radio (that includes any right or left wing hack and the local sports hosts)
CLASSIC! There is really the crux of the matter-- priorities. And why political platforms and ideologies run amok trick otherwise sensible people into doing completely illogical things willingly and with a smile on their face.
It took a while but Ogden's paper finally pubishes the letter. http://www.standard.net/live/opinion/letterstotheeditor/101333/ They edited out my shot at the agenda pushing media.
Only a couple of more days and these guys will run out of time. It will be interesting to see their final count but fun as well and I shall laugh with joy as their failure becomes evident.
I think their failure will need to result in a round of proxy drinking. Who do I need to take a shot for?
I can't wait until Monday when these bastards come up short of even the 92,000 signatures, valid or not. Maybe I will finally start blogging. First headline will be: If the Sandy stadium is so unpopular and 65% of the state is against it, how come you schmucks couldn't get 10% of the population to sign your petition? Bitches!!!!
So they need to turn them in by the deadline, right? It seems like if they still don't have any real numbers on their site, they haven't even evaluated where they are two days before the deadline. Either that or they're hoping to sneak in under the radar and avoid any moves to counter the effort. That leaves this question: Is Swelund a diabolical genius or a clown looking to gain name recognition. Seriously, what have we seen in the past few weeks other than the crap about 100,000 lines worth of signatures floating around?
Last I heard on this... the signatures and enthusiam for the project peaked at about 60k signatures. The numbers and enthusiasm are falling off... apparently just like a crowd at the "Richard"
Ok guys, time to get your blood boilin' In this Sunday's Desperate News, there is a "puff piece" on resident soccer hater, Brad Swedlund and his quest for the holy grail, er, the holy signature to place the stadium funding on the ballot. Yes, it's the inspiring story about how an "Average Joe" took on the evil state guv-mint and decided to start the petition drive because "somethin' had to be done" becauser the state stepped in to give RSL the money it needed after The Patron Saint of the Mathematically-Challlenged, Peter "Duh" Corroon decided that it wasn't in Larry Miller's best interests to build a soccer stadium in Sandy across from Jordan Commons. Not one to do anything rash, our "Average Joe" was impressed how Saint Pete came to his decision after many months of thoughtful reflection of financial studies and public scrutiny of the RSL stadium plan, something that the legislature avoided when they OK'd the plan after a few minutes of "due diligence" which consisted of basic adding and subtracting. Eventhough RSL is running adds during RSL week and has set up a website to explain the stadium funding, Mr. Guv-mint Crusader knows that this is only to muddy the waters with "misinformation" so that people become more confused about the RSL funding, after all, everyone knows that school-aged children in the state of Utah pay all the hotel taxes in SL county. Boy, I'm sure glad that we have people of the caliber of Mr. Swedlund to keep SL County from giving money which rightfully belongs to Larry H. Miller to anyone else. I just hope Mr. Miller doesn't take his basketball team and <gasp!> leave the state. That would really be tragic.
He's only got one day left. I'm pretty optimistic that he won't have even 92,000 signatures to bother the government to verify them. And then this thing will finally get laid to rest - we hope.
Yeah, having the last day of the drive in a very Christian state be Easter freakin' Sunday can't be a big help to him.
Fox 13 reporting this morning that (and I love how they spin this) the petition drive "only needs 60,000 more signatures". Assuming they're right (and that's a big assumption), that means they've only got 32,000 collected. Mr. What's-his-face claimed to have 35,000 in early March and 50,000 around March 20. I wonder how he squares that with the Fox report? Mr. Swedlund, where I come from that makes you a lying sack of crap. But alas, we can all rejoice because as of today, the petition drive is dead. All morning I've had a scene from the movie Major League going through my head........the one where the guy hits a high popup straight up over home plate and the Indians catcher (Tom Berenger) waiting for it to come down says to the batter, "ya know, I don't think this one's got the distance."
If that is true and they only have 30,000 some signutures you know it won't make any news braodcasts at all. If it had been 90,000 signutures it would be all over the place showing how so many Utahns are agaisnst the stradium, but with such a low number of signutuers it only shows that Utah does want this stadium and their is now way it will make the news.
