If you don't hate us now, just wait til 400 Section 8ers show up on your doorstep that have been drinking since 8AM and take over your new stadium like we do in Cbus.
That's about as remarkable as invading Antarctica. There's no one freaking there (Cbus) to begin with. Anyway, to chime in and add to the redundancy, yeah - it's Chicago. I've never had a problem with people from KC... kinda sad... it's actually closer to Chicago. I wonder if KC people hate StL people and StL people simply don't notice. I definitely don't. I remember a few years ago, think it was 2001, I was listening to Jim Rome's radio program. He went on for a good 10 minutes doing nothing but repeating the same phrase about how much Royals and Cardinals fans hated each other. I've never met, nor hated a Royals fan - from that point on, I considered Rome to be a windbag with little to no information. So... based on the possibility that he wasn't completely full of shit, isn't it possible that another team could bring the rivalry to us?
You shall be destroyed. Twellman, Davis, Noonan and the boys will crush your feeble team which has lost to powerhouse LA Galaxy.
Oh my God, I'm terrified of what the 2009 St. Louis Fighting Bumblebees or whatever you name the team does to the 2007 Fire. I've got tickets to that game but I can't attend. You want to buy them off me? Only 20 bucks.
You do realise they don't play on the same team, right? Much less one from StL. And that's some Miss Cleo shit, you pontificating on our result against LA two years on.
What, is Twellman going to click the heels of his neon yellow slippers three times and be magically teleported to Collinsville? "There's no place like home, there's no place like home..."
You just wish there was anybody in MLS from Chicago who could give a shit about that city. Unfortunately there isn't. I guarantee each of the players mentioned above desire to come play in St. Louis. They might not do it first year, but I think they'll come. If we build it, they will come.
I guarantee you're wrong, based upon what Twellman has said in radio interviews, and he and Noonan have said privately. In fact, Twellman's specific words, both on the air and in a separate conversation, were "(I'll) always be a Cards fans, but Boston is such an awesome city to live in." He further said that if he left Boston, it would be for Europe. And this was when he was speaking specifically about the prospect of an MLS team in St Louis. Noonan echoed the same sentiment.
We have a few of our own playing regularly in Europe in case you haven't noticed. I'd say we're not doing too bad for ourselves. I'd rather have a player be good enough to be the best he could be wherever that would be rather than never be good enough to get out of St. Louis. Or get Landon-style homesickness and come scurrying home at the earliest chance.
*sigh* I see the Fire fans have launched their attack. Interesting how, on the Fire boards, everyone flips out if a St. Louis supporter posts in their threads. Just wait until 2009. You will be destroyed by the greatest soccer city in the country. BTW McBride went to SLU.
Well, someone is going to say it... Brian McBride is actually from the Chicagoland-area... but did play and attend classes at SLU. Dad's from StL, though I may be mistaken on that. Fire fans are flaming on this board bc their team is absolute shite this year. Oh, and the cubbies just got swept, the sox tanked, the Bears are sub .500, and the Hawks... well.. there's always next season. If I were from Chi, I would be sobbing in my 312 and lashing out at anyone that walked by.
Haha. Come on. You can do better than that. Cubs, swept in the playoffs. True. Cards, finishing third behind the Cubs and the Milwaukee freaking Brewers and losing 11 of 16 games against a Cub team that got swept in the playoffs. Ouch. Bears, under .500. True. Rams, under .500....and .400.....and .100...and .001. Even the Fire team you say is shite managed to get a win or two in its first five games. Are the Rams trying to get the first pick in the draft or are they still planning on that 11-game winning streak to make the playoffs?
The Cardinals won as many playoff games as the Cubs did. Also, within the last calendar year, the Cardinals have done one thing the Cubs haven't done for nigh-on a century: win a World Series. The Bears will win no more playoff games than the Rams. Oh, and the Rams won a Super Bowl this millenium. Have the Bears? Or has it been more than two decades?
Less of an attack, more of stating the obvious. Besides, you started this whole bit by posting a thread on how to insult our team. You certainly don't mean St. Louis?!?!? Come on... you don't even have an MLS team yet. Hell, you don't even have a USL team! Wilmington, NC is more of a soccer city than St. Louis.
So, following this logic... Miami, FL was more of a hockey town than Minneapolis during the time between the Northstars departing to Dallas and the inaugural season of the Wild. That's just plain silly.
Never claimed the Cards were fantastic this year. However, I'd like to see a spoiled, overpaid, over-appreciated Cubs team handle the adversity this Cards team faced and end up anywhere near the playoffs with a month to go. And the Rams were the preseason favorites to win the NFC this year? No wait.. that was da Bears. Anyway, enough other sports... how about that Fire team? They going to make the MLS playoffs? Or, should we trot out the ol' Chicago phrase, "There's always next season."
I find it funny that they're outraged at A) Something they've done themselves on their own board and B) Something that is a regular occurance at soccer matches. "OMGZ UR INSULTING R TEAM?!?! NOOOOO!"
Is it? Minneapolis allowed the Northstars to walk away, and then completely ignored the Minn Moose in its stead. How much of a hockey town does that sound like to you? At least Miami put together a team and stuck with it through the difficult times. Who is outraged? I am having a good time here.
That doesn't mean anything. Just because it's a small market doesn't mean it doesn't love hockey any less. Minnesotans will always, in general, love hockey more than Texans, but there is not always adequate resources in a small market to sustain a professional sports team. Hence, Winnepeg. And sometimes, it's just luck. It's just been bad luck that has kept us from having a team for all this time.
