Did anyone else facepalm when they said Bayren Munich doesnt want to become the Buffalo Bills of soccer? I already facepalmed when they equated them with the New York Yankees. Enough with the cheesy American sports anologies for crying out lot.
Yeah...'the New York Yankees of German soccer'...I don't like crap like that. On another note, I hope Gus brushed up on his pronunciations....
I don't have problems with the Yankee comparison, you don't have to know about baseball to decipher what he meant. It's like comparing something to Beatlemania. But I don't know what "being the Buffalo Bills" means, only from the context can I guess they must have "almost won" championships or super bowls or something. Do they suppose the are mostly catering to NFL fans?
I'm streaming the Sky feed... Excellent You can't beat Martin Tyler and Gary Neville Where are the GuJo fans?? Cantona---
My primary GuJo impression from the first half is serious doubt that he's any good at the sports upon which he built his alleged reputation. Momentum is part of those sports too, no? So Barton picks up on Bayern's surprisingly dazed lackluster state, almost to excess. GuJo doesn't hear or relate to any of that, the suddenly around 30 minutes a great Bayern move against the run of play. Sure moments like that could trigger a change of momentum, but for Gus it was a sudden profound change in underlying momentum of the game, like a game changer. I suspect he bounces from overstating the broad significance of one quick moment of excitement when he narrates Basketball or NFL Football. And never tunes in to slower ebb and flow of momentum. Maybe he should audition to host a quiz show next.
Thanks for the rep. I must say though...Gary Neville is the exception to the general rule. He's been outstanding from the moment he stepped into the booth. The coulda, shoulda, put the match with him and Tyler on FSC (or SAP) while the soccer for dummies concept continued on "the mother ship" OTA Fox.
Took Gus 45 seconds to acknowledge there was a penalty. Went nuts shouting the word "FOUL" but gave no indication what it actually meant. Thx, Jay!
I liked how when a shot of Merkel and Platini was shown, Gus only pointed out Merkel. Poor guy may not know who Platini even is. He seems like a nice guy which makes it tough to criticize him. Plus he has been "put" into a tough position by Fox. Having said that, I just don't like his style. It's as if he is just saying words and not phrases. And 90% of the game he is just calling out players names. He is going to have to learn a lot if he is to stay. Oh yeah ... the Buffalo Bills analogy today was pretty bad. Bayern has 5 CL titles.
Who the hell is Platini in the world of european football compared to the Colts quarterback or someone with the historical importance of will and jaden smith?
So Mexico is Playing Nigeria. ESPN is broadcasting the game. So tell me, do you like the two commentators? Instead of British accents, they have spanish accents. Does it make a difference?
No. Rafa Uncein(sp) is what ray hudson/warren barton/ian joy/bodo would never be. Rafa is pure class as a color guy or rare occasions when he does a game solo. I've enjoyed listening to this man since 2000.
I ran into Rafa Uncein in Miami and told me he is doing something completely different to calling soccer games. He has not been hired to do games all year. Too bad...
No American that I've ever heard, color or play-by-play, should be doing this game. They suck. All of them.
And who the hell is doing the color commentary with Adrian? Where do they find these morons? These networks never learn - just rubbish. So what he was a goalkeeper.
