http://www.nycosmos.com/featured/carlos-alberto-returns-as-international-ambassador/ So when's Der Kaiser getting involved?
I heard rumblings he is next on board. From what they told us, pretty much everyone who was involved previously is going to be on board. We'll see.
YUP! That's what I'm waiting for as well. Do you know what he's up to? Maybe we can reach out to him?
On the contrary, it’s in Red Bull’s best interest to have both the Cosmos and Red Bulls be strong sides both on and off the field in order to kick-start a credible rivalry amongst one another. In fact, I think Beckenbauer would perhaps be indeed the biggest heavyweight behind the scenes that Cosmos could have as part of their staff, in any role. With all due respect, most of their ‘ambassadors’ are just name characters that have little to any off-field credibility. Pele will sell his mother for the right cash, the only football-related ‘anything’ we’ve seen from Cantona since his last days in Manchester have been Nike Commercials and beach tourneys, and Chinaglia……’nuff said. Beckenbauer has been president at Bayern and Vice President of the German National team, he even headed Germany’s successful bid at the World Cup back in 2006. Credentials alone he’s well above anyone in MLS and perhaps the entire US Soccer federation put together. Having him as a consultant, or any role whatsoever with influence, would be a huge move that Cosmos can tip in their favor. I completely agree that Cobi, Gio, etc. have been smart moves in their smaller roles, but I think that if possible, the Cosmos being represented by Beckenbauer instead of Cantona, Chinaglia, etc. in the international scene would be taken much more seriously. Pele as an image will raise attention, but in off-field team matters, even he can’t shine ‘Der Kaiser’s’ shoes. IMO, of any ex-Cosmos I think Beckenbauer would be the biggest difference maker outside of selling merchandise. On another note, it’s nice that Carlos Alberto has been given a role too. However it would be nice to see Randy Horton and Werner Roth be involved in some capacity as well.
With all respect due them for their association with the Cosmos but WHAT ABOUT RICKY DAVIS?!?!?!?!?!?!??!
Exactly. Franz has more credibility in one of his little toes than all of the signings the Cosmos have made so far put together. To say he is well respected in the soccer world (business/coach/player/director - you name it) is an understatement. If they got him on board it would be the most significant thing they have done to date. As someone who spent time with the man during the old days he would not get involved unless he thought this had a real chance of happening. He would study the people and situation. He would do his due diligence. His approval would mean a lot. He wouldn't waste his reputation and time on something he thought was folly or an elaborate scheme. Let's see what happens.
A few years ago he promised to get really involved with the Red Bull NY project BUT HE DID NOTHING I believe Franz is really happy in Munich guiding his Bayern
I really believe the next person the Cosmos need to get involved with their Movement is Don Garber...just sayin.
Isn't Horton a cabinet minister in Bermuda? And, given that he played for the Cosmos long before they became the Once In A Lifetime sensation of the Pele years, would anyone even know who he was? If you know who Horton is you're either A) Old. B) Bermudan. C) A Student of NASL history. D) A combination of the above. I have great respect for Horton but I don't think adding him to the list of ex-Cosmos affiliated with the team will accomplish much outside of Bermuda.
That was a favor to Dieter from what I have heard. Nothing serious was ever there. Nick, Don is already on your side. That is not the issue. Don would cream his pants if this became viable. I dated Werner's niece for a while. Long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away...when Randal's Island ruled.
