Nothing like asking a bunch of professional believers what they think of atheism, and passing it off as "news".

What's with you this morning, mtmike? First the nacho cheese thing, now this?

It makes a claim that absolutely requires evidence and then provides absolutely none. It's all suspicion. There are no numbers.

I could just as easily claim that religiosity is in decline worldwide because a lot of people seem to like "Desperate Housewives." Furthermore, relgion can't explain why E=MC2. Therefore, religion must be in decline.

It was a long night. Baby up about 6 times. Wife (works in mental health--appropriate I know being married to me) gets a crisis call at 5:45. Oh, and no shower for two nights while I am doing some plumbing/replacing rotted drywall/wood/ new shower surround.

So, I suppose I'm just a little delirious this morning. Walking around in a haze.

I know, just like normal. :D

What I don't get is this "intelligent design" thing. It seems to me to go something like this: All we see around us couldn't possibly have come about without being designed. Therefore there must be some kind of creator. But if there is a creator, he/she/it must be even more complex than what we see around us. Therfore surely they must have a creator and then that creator must have their own creator and so on and so on. It's as futile as trying to find the starting point of where all the matter in the universe came from.

I find it easier to just accept what we have, not believe blindly in some religion. If that's Atheism, then great.

An interesting read, on the whole, to be sure. Can't say I agree with some of it, but worth a couple minutes to check out.

Before ITN (infamous for not reading squat) and his right-wing entourage comes in, let's just put this part out in the open.

You can get a lot of information about atheism at Wikipedia here. Another interesting read if you've got the time.

"Aye-yah-yah-yah-yah!", added Dr. Yahya while strapping six kilos of plastic explosives to his 9-year-old daughter's chest, "Now you go and earn your place in Heaven as one of the virgins at the disposal of the heroes of Jihad. Aye-yah-yah-yah-yah, the great post-atheist world awaits!"

I can't say that atheism is in decline, but I know indifference still numbers in the tens of millions worldwide.

Thanks forthe link, but it's not something concerns me. My point was that I just do what I do and if it happens to have a name then fine.

I find it fascinating the variations of atheism and agnosticism. The two have just as many "splinters" as religion itself.

Oh, atheism is on the decline? I'd better find God before non-belief is totally out of style!

    Grrrrrrr.

OK I caved in and went to read the article.

It reads EXACTLY like an infomercial for believing in god. What a CROCK OF FECES. Oh man, that just angered me. Might as well have been testimonials!

This and the contribution to the Bubba thread...you're on a roll.

If that wasn't bordering on innapropriate for such a use, I'd make that a sig.

I'm so glad not to be enemy #1 anymore:

Phew! Keep your frigging exorcisms, and chants, and flesh-eating, and blood-drinking rituals away from me!

The writer of that article must be going on faith that atheism is on the decline because I didn't see many statistics in there. Know what? I asked my atheist Mamaw who grew up in a small West Virginia town how many "out" atheists she grew up with. One. Yet I'd say that I knew at least 50 atheist kids growing up in my small West Virginia town. Damn, atheism is taking over! Think I'm qualified to write an article for the Washington Times?
