Jesus, the hate for Ream is ridiculous. I think Tim made 2 or 3 total mental mistakes the entire time played for USMNT. Gonzalez made 2 just this match, including a giveaway that lead to a breakaway. Besler had a giveway that lead to a shot on goal. I'm fine with giving Gonzalez more time, but it's pretty obvious we need more Center backs who can pass the ball outta the back. The more options we have the better. Gonzalez to his credit has been passing pretty well.
Yeah, it is ridiculous. Ream is still around and just needs to regain his confidence. I'm certainly not shutting the door on him. He has the tools, but there were too many mistakes. Gonzalez has been making blunders too, but he has much better support.
2011 was a long time ago, especially at Bocanegra's age. No matter how well he was playing 2 years ago, he looks older when he plays now.
I'd still love to get a look at Cameron-Besler. Gonzo has done pretty well but I'd still like to see it.
Cameron is much better in the defensive mid spot. Plus with the recent results, there is absolutely no reason to change the center backs. 4 shut outs in 5 matches with only 1 goal conceded. That is one hell of a stat. I do like Cameron. I think he is a good player. I live in Houston so I have seen Cameron play many times, but I think he would best be used as a defensive mid. I hope Stoke watches the last 2 matches and let him play in that spot.
Here's Steve Davies recent attempt at the depth chart: http://prosoccertalk.nbcsports.com/...rt-center-back-u-s-omar-gonzalez-matt-besler/ 1. Omar Gonzalez 2. Matt Besler 3. Geoff Cameron 4. Clarence Goodson 5. Maurice Edu 6. Michael Orozco Fiscal 7. Carlos Bocanegra 8. Oguchi Onyewu I'd very much hope that Okugo and possibly John and Brooks are given opportunities to move up this list in the next year.
Minus Edu. With the exception of the Mexico game, has Klinsmann given any indication that he'd play Edu at CB?
It was AJ Delagarza and he was so bummed out about it. He went on twitter saying that he pretty much feels terrible about it and apologized to the fans. La's back line has been so suspect this season primarily due to Cudicini the new goalie. It seems like the defense and him are not on the same page at all. Gonzalez has also not looked motivated this season. He seems lethargic at times. LA hasn't really been punished because of it but I think Omar has gotten cocky. He might feel like he is better defender who should be in Europe. I know a few LA fans feel the same way.
It's interesting to look back at what we were thinking not so long ago. Looks like we're back to Besler and Cameron. I can't complain about that - just wish Cameron had been getting some minutes at CB.
I don't even want to know what idiocy I predicted. I think it was Shea and Boss. Yea... Doesn't get much worse than that. I didn't know much about the sport back then and was all about the "next big thing."
Jough wins the award for first mention of Besler all the way back in June of 2011. He even APOLOGIZED for it. One other poster mentioned him in 2011. A year later this genius was the third comment on Besler
Yes, but I was being sarcastic since Real Corona was making fun of himself and the posts were made in 2011.
