the league is going places...they just announced their 2 teams so maybe they don't need the tryouts...lol
finally their tryout details are made public... http://www.bigapplesoccer.com/article.php?article_id=36299
Not much new but an updated website for the American Soccer League : http://www.aslsoccer.us/index.php
http://www.aslsoccer.us/index.php/press-releases Keep trying, boys! And it STILL says they are "slatted" to kick off in August. I'm sorry. I cannot take you seriously if you can't get this stuff right on the only public face you have.
This Driver guy is a con artist and a very unsuccessful business man. The massive reason of why he was fired by the independence was because he wanted to make business decisions and the owner figured out he was useless. This league will be full of desperate young men trying to make it. Keep an eye on his so called coaching website as his players will end up coaching (which they get paid for) and playing (which they won't get paid for) this in turn don't make you a 'pro'. You can't have a professional contract in an unsanctioned so called pro league. This is league is bad for US Soccer as it has the word professional in the league name.
so either Kenn made a mistake (completely unheard of in these parts) or this league apparently took down the direct link that Kenn kindly provided to their league press release section...
No, the entire point was that their "press release" section of their website was a big giant 404 error. That's what I was pointing out.
http://www.aslsoccer.us/index.php/interested-players quote: "All interested MALE players..." glad they got that figured out quote: "Players will be playing for professional contracts on non NCAA-compliant teams." and what exactly is a COMPLIANT team, by the way? (yeah, we know what they mean, just worded funny.) qoute: "All Players will be sorted into teams and everyone is guaranteed 45 minutes per game." (first reading) alrighty. ...all this for the low low low price of $435/Player really? for a few agility drills and games? By the way, will players be divided into teams, and have a guaranteed number of minutes? quote: "All Players will be sorted into teams and everyone is guaranteed 45 minutes per game ." (second reading) ...oh, thanks. GO TEAM THREE! BEAT THOSE TEAM FOUR SLUGS! qoute: "Panel Discussion - 9:30pm (Features ASL CEO, Commissioner, Technical Director, FIFA Agent, and GMs/Head Coaches)" OK, this one sounds interesting... what is a "FIFA Agent?" http://www.aslsoccer.us/index.php/additional-info quote: "ASL will kick off in August 2014, we will look to follow the European schedule as closely as possible: 2014/2015 Season: - August 2014 to November 2014 = Up to 10-12 games. * Allows for 24-28 weeks of soccer" so either a mis-print, or Europe has adopted that "12 games in 28 weeks" schedule. ASL Team Owner Training qoute: "This will create a standard of excellence, on and off the pitch, giving all ASL teams every opportunity to succeed from the out start." "out start????" quote: "On going training covers but is not limited to the following topics: ASL Minimum Operating Standards" have at this one, friends.
Meaning, "Not an amateur team where you can play during the summer and retain NCAA eligibility, just so there's no confusion." There are actual agents who have FIFA certification, I do believe. Like the NFLPA has agents who have completed some bit of education and certification. I hope there's some grammar lessons in there. Be great if they have standards.
completely missed the fact that both Driver and Trainor both defected from the NPSL...since Trainor is based in the West Coast, it's going to be interesting to see him manage an East Coast league... http://www.aslsoccer.us/index.php/component/k2/item/7-dan-trainor/7-dan-trainor
As long as "owner training" doesn't really mean "the soccer version of Joe Newman's 'Blueprint for Success'"
Team #3 announced as Philadelphia Fury on twitter yesterday, without much fanfare and not even a poorly spelled press release!
The Philadelphia Fury Joins the ASL!— AmericanSoccerLeague (@ASL_US) February 22, 2014 Hey, FIVE RETWEETS, Y'ALL! Hopefully it's not this bunch, who haven't tweeted since last October.
Im surprised NASL hasn't laid claim to the Fury name yet. Anyway Im all for another minor league team to root for in my area.
Not a brand with a lot of cachet. Didn't last long, didn't end well. There were a lot of original NASL brand names. They weren't all well-received. Only a handful really resonated. Some of those are already in use. And, at some point, Jesucristo, we have to stop reaching back to 1980.
I doubt this will happen anytime soon. People seem to think some of those old names hold some worth. Regardless of how relevant the old team was or how many seasons the old team played. Thats why we keep having names like Aztecs, Sting or in this case Fury keep coming up. Will be interesting in the future though. The Union said they'd like to do an Atoms and Fury third jerseys in the future.
It's fine to occasionally visit the past. It's the people who insist that we live there day-in, day-out that I worry about.
Another great decision by the people who have hitched their wagons to the Solution In Search Of A Problem. http://money.cnn.com/2014/02/25/technology/security/mtgox-bitcoin/
I don't mind it as much in indoor because the past is about all indoor has left to hold on to, unfortunately.
Just got a press release. ASL has been provisionally sanctioned by the USASA. And therefore indirectly by USSF. As what, it doesn't say.
Not much. To affiliate as a "Regional League" you have to have 2 teams in each of 3 states and 12 teams total (which they don't have, but that could be the reason they say it is "provisional"). They could also be affiliated with the state associations directly in the 3 states they are in (Massachusetts, New Jersey, and Eastern Pennsylvania). Beyond that, the only requirements are that they agree to follow the USASA rules and pay the required fees on time. http://assets.ngin.com/attachments/document/0044/1783/USASA_October_2013_Bylaws.pdf
