Most people I know don't consider it a clasico. I was watching the game on telefutura and even they asked the question if it's a clasico or not. Quite frankly I don't know why this is even a question. I mean two of the top four teams in the country(popularity wise), same city, and have met numerous times in the playoffs including the finals. How is this not considered a clasico I ask you?

America-Pumas and even Cruz Azul-America should be regarded as Clasicos, no questions asked. They have the cross town rivalry, the history and every other ingridient of a Clasico not to be regarded as such.

However, that is not the case. Sadly, most MFL Club directives and media do not give the match up's the respect needed. In my own opinion, Vergara is a great example of how a directive can heat up a match. Instead he gets blamed with inciting Violence in the stands.

Here is a link with two Youtube vids, they are promos that use the Brazil-Argentina rivalry to showcase products. I truly believe the same can be done in Mexico, we have the same potential, we are just not fully taking advanatge of it.

In any case any match were you hate to lose to your rival should be regarded as a instant clasico. As a Chiva fan I look forwards to facing America (SuperClasico) Cruz Azul, Pumas, Pachuca and Toluca and obviously Atlas.

Out of all those match ups, only two are given much importance, America and Atlas, and that has much to do with how the media back in the days portrayed the games. With the one reporter calling Guadalajara Chivas to mock their playing style.

Again the closest we have come to that is Vergaras, desplegado, "Linda Gatitas" and for the most part it is critisized.

You are an idiot. Only considering you're team chivas to be the only clasicos. I'm from monterrey and I don't consider chivas vs atlas a derby. It's a clasico. Atlas vs Tecos, Chivas vs Tecos, Atlante vs America now those are derbys. America vs Cruz Azul use to be a clasico, one I use to look forward to. Now it's dead. It's been dead for quite a while now. They don't even pack the stadiums anymore like they use to. Tigres vs Monterrey makes as much money as Chivas vs America. It's worked it's way of being the 2nd biggest game of the year in all of mexico. Just wait till the new stadium is built with even more seats and it's going to be twice as better. I'm a big fan of Tigres but also of soccer, football, whatever you want to call it. You're reply was just pure ignorance.

I thought it was bullshit that Tuca Ferretti kept on saying the week prior to the match up that it was not considered a classic and that it needed more time to evolve into one.

That is laughable and more so coming from him considering he owes his entire career IN MEXICO to a matchup played against America. Had Tuca not scored that free kick in the final against America, he certainly would not have stayed in Mexico for as long as he has. To the Antiamericanista, they will always praise and respect him for that. He has the doors open to any Antiamericanista hiring.

But back to his comments about the matchup not being one--i find it ridiculous that he minimizes the match up because he knows that if it is considered a big match up and loses it--he wont be very popular and will have to look for another job. He should have the balls to say, "Yes, it is very big match and we will win it!"

Tuca's coaching career should have ended 2 years after Chivas won the 1997 title because his teams (with the exception of a season or 2) since have been pure garbage. He is too predictable, too impulsive, and plain and simple a crappy coach.

    ----------------------------------------------

To say that match up is not a clasic, derby, etc is lying to oneself. Pumas and America have met up in the league finals more than any other 2 teams.

    -----------------

The America Cruz Azul match up is as intense. In fact, America has faced Cruz Azul more times in post season match ups than Chivas and Pumas.

You are sadly misinformed. You do not have any sort of figures to make those claims.

I suggest you look at ratings and even polls (considering th sample size) to get a more accurate feel as to which games sell the most.

America-Cruz Azul; America-UNAM have much more following than the other derbies in Mexico (Chivas-Atlas, Monterrey-Tigres)

Other than Mty fans, that game doesnt have the huge a following in the other metropolitan areas.

... apertura 2006, the only time Cruz Azul filled their stadium (regular season) was for America (remember Pumas played there as well that season) and thats the last time America went there ....

Tuca says that because a lot of people have the mentality that there is just one clasico. I've heard it on the board and in Mexico some times about their only being America-Chivas. To me it's totally off and there is a reason why it is called the superclasico, to name it the biggest game but to also to give it due to the other clasicos. To me they should just oficiate the whole America-Cruz Azul, America-UNAM, Chivas-Atlas and Tigres-Monterrey thing. America-UNAM is if anything the one that more people fail to regard as clasico, but to me that's insane to not consider it so.
