And like that, Comcast will pick up the channel: http://www.boston.com/sports/soccer...mcast_agrees_to_carry_new_bein_sport_network/
I think Goff was stating they don't have mobile or internet support at the moment. Their website says: So clearly they'll have an ESPN3 type thing plus a WatchESPN type app. and for you comcast folks:
I think Ceezmad is (somewhat tongue in cheek) referring to the collective freakout that happened when a company in the Gulf tried to buy stock in a company that managed US ports.
That port deal was for reasons of supposed National Security, so that at least is understandable. I dunno if Sport is a matter of National Security, though.
Since it's soccer, shouldn't the saying be "steps up to the spot?" A baseball metaphor doesn't technically fit here.
Oh no doubt, but if you're going to go the English language route, at least have a name that makes sense grammatically. I don't know, maybe its just me.
"beIN" origination in France. I don't know it's significance, but it's not a brand invented for the American market.
I still think the English language derivation is there though. They are telling us that by watching this channel, we will "Be In" the game. At least that's what I'd imagine most people in the U.S. take away from it. Doesn't matter where it originated, just saying from an American marketing standpoint they would have been better off calling the American version of the channel something like "AJ Sports" or something similar. Not a big deal, just an observation, but people aren't going to be drawn to something called "BeIN".
Is this being done as a package deal where the carrier has to carry Al_jazeera as well? (No,I didn't read the link above and don't have time.) Thanks for your help!
Didn't Ray and Phil call the Copa America the last time The U.S. we're in it? Could swear I remember Ray waxing poetic about Eddie Johnson vs Argentina.
They're working toward being the dominating presence in world sport. I believe they'll absolutely rival ESPN. Have the rights to the Qatari WC already been sold? I'm sure that'll be they're crowning moment if they have it or get it.
Regardless of the metaphor for sports activity, beIN is an American network now. It operates out of Florida. It is working to increase its channel penetration into US homes that pay for subscription tv. It is presenting and marketing itself as "America's New & Exclusive International Sports Channel." We'll see what that means for the likes of ESPN/ABC, NBC, FOX, Univision and other players/media-companies already on the crowded field of sport(s) telecasting and soccer coverage. To me, beIN's involvement with soccer (the world's game) in the US market is a positive thing on the whole, and in the long run. It will be interesting to see how rights holders for match and event content (be they FIFA, EPL, MLS/SUM, and other leagues) want to and will deal/partner with and sell to the available media partners in the US in the years ahead.
I am in agreement with the people who think BeIN will be available to all cable networks relatively soon. This seems like it will be a major network for sure. The more companies competing to put soccer on TV in the US, the better. With BeIN getting all away qualifiers, seems like we've seen the last of the PPV and non-HD broadcasts of US WCQ. On a personal note - sad that Time Warner (my cable company) didn't get an early deal, but totally stoked that my girlfriend in Philly has Comcast! Guess where I'll be on Sept 7?
