He was not better and they all failed ... to take Argentina deep in final. Like Klose scored 14goals WC but never able to deliver anything big for Germany

I'm sure no matter how many goals Messi score in his career, this is something he would dream of

This a XI of the best players with Argentinian nationality, not Argentinian NT allstar team.

If I read well the thread calling "ALL STAR TEAM" and that's what I understood.

Like any WC all star teams, they would never include a player who barely played 1,2 games the whole tournament

Now if we say that is the "best XI Argentinian players ever grace on the pitch" then I agree

You're still going on with this? The thread is all-time Argentina squad, any player of Argentinian nationality who is good enough can make it. If we go only by performances with the NT, not just DiStefano (played too little) but also Messi (inconsistent level) and Zanetti (no great relevance) would be cut out.

Like I said if we change a bit in the title of the team, I am ok with it - deepdown Di Stefano was an Argentinian.

For me I would put either Batistuta or Kempes in place of Messi (up to now). Until I think (or have a hope) that he will do great in next WC14 (Xfingers)

Zanetti was the MOST CONSISTENT player in Argentina shirt just behind Maradona and he was arguably the best fullback for that team.

This is about an all-time team (25-men squad) with the best players produced by Argentina, not necessarily just only the best playing for their national team.

I've added to the positional rankings to Pedro Ochoa, Ramón Díaz, Javier Saviola and Sergio Agüero into the forwards and Martín Palermo and Diego Milito into the centreforwards.

D Milito is a really poor choice to include.

Ariel Ortega has not missed, he's mentioned in the positional rankings. Please, check again.

How may CFs did you list? Milito is certainly outside the top ten:

    Labruna
    Batistuta
    Crespo
    Balbo
    Luque
    Higuain
    Babington
    Palermo
    Valdano
    Pasculli

I'm missing at least half a dozen from the 40s and 50s.

this one is even more difficult then the all time brazilian team. since it has to be a functionable team. so who is gonna be the nr. 10 ? sivori ? pedernera ? di stefano ? maradona ?

    formation : 4-4-2
goal : easy enough the greatest sout-american goalie ever : fillol
    leftback : marzolini
    rightback : zanetti
sweeper : passarella (top 5 all time sweeper) beautiful player to watch so full of spirit.
central defender : walter samuel (a claudio gentile-like player very hard and dirty but every team needs one of those)
left midfield : di stefano (the man was the most complete player ever with incredible stamina. he could defend as good as attack and i want to fit in some other great players so diu stefano is easiest to switch to a position he did not normally play since he is also 2 footed)
right midfield : ossie ardiles (very hard working player)
defensive midifeld : luis monti (alltthough playing for italy he was born argetinian so i include him in my team).
    attacking midfield/playmaker : maradona
left forward : angel labruna (from the great river plate of the 1940ies)
right forward : messi (not my favorite player but how can one not put him in an argetinian all time team ?)

imo this team will beat an all time brazilian team.

    Whoa. Bold statement right there.

The Maradona-Messi-Di Stefano trio is probably unstoppable.

But Zico-Garrincha-Pele are equally out of this world.

If this squad is just players of Argentine nationality, you should include David Trezeguet. If Di Stefano who played for Spain and Colombia and Sivori who played for Italy, surely Trezeguet deserves a spot

They're published in the first post and in the blog (17 with Martín Palermo and Diego Milito).

By the way, Ángel Labruna was mainly a forward and Carlos Babington an attacking-midfielder, I didn't consider them in this category.

David Trezeguet born in Rouen, France.

Apart of that, if the player never played for his native country at major international level and did by another country I'd consider him as from the country which has represented (for example, Deco by Portugal or Lukas Podolski by Germany). It's not the same case for Trezeguet who is French-born.

D Milito makes the top 20 centerforward based on his great form at Inter Milan, including leading them to the CL championship in 2010. But top ten is beyond him for sure.

Yeah, a player has to have been eligible to play for that country's NT to be included in their list.

not if you think it through.
in midfield and attack all time brazil and argentina are equal imo. each having had all time great players. maybe purely attackers brazil is better but midfielders aregentina beats brazil by a small margine.
but argentina's defense and goalkeeper are better then brazils. i mean fillol way better then any goalie from brazil. the best south american goalkeeper ever.
passarella the best sweeper/central defender south america has to offer.
