At what hour will they show it? It could strangely be better for me, because I'll probably have some committments at work, at the time of the final...
That was indeed the part I missed, but I thank you very much anyway, and I was glad to rewatched that. I guess I'll have to hope that some japanese feed has been recorded to also rewatch the part that wasn't broadcast by Eurosport.
Well deserved win by Japan as Sweden was in the driver's seat(just needed a tie) but Japan not only came back with 2 quality goals but hit the post a couple times as well. Sweden suffered from playing the ball back once too often but also surprisingly poor substitutions from Pia. But the format is definitely changes things; 6 allowed subs, but a game every two days. What I noticed Japan with their controlled short, 1-2 passing, avoided trying to go through Fisher, but instead picked on the other cb, the less experienced, Sembrant. I was impress with the right winger, Kawsumi. You'll get to see her this summer playing with the Seattle Reign. All of those games should be streamlined. Which is more than we can say for eurosport, as the only game on tape today is the championship between Japan & Germany, 12 pm(us central time) http://www.frombar.com
Halftime: Iceland - Sweden 2-0 . Iceland having a positive trend in Algarve, Sweden collapsing... Goals from Gunnarsdottir and Thorsteinsdottir
Iceland - Sweden 2-1. Surprising 3rd place to Iceland. Swedish goal by Antonia Göransson in the 90th minute.
Let's not forget that Iceland has one of the best keepers(the best, IMO) in the world. The only thing that "shocks" me, in this instance, is that Iceland scored a couple of goals. Last summer, their attack didn't seem that organized. Good for Iceland!
#thatwasagoal #gojapan rawr =edit= I was talking about the disallowed first-half goal, but right after halftime, (right after I posted,) Germany scores.
This match gets goals - for the wrong team - as soon as I turned my stream on. Turning it off right now.
Hmm. I'm afraid to log back on--don't want to jinx Japan. To my credit, Japan were playing the better football when I was watching. They had several great opportunities in the first half.
Sad that Japan lost. That hand in the first half? Germany scored some great goals though. What a goal by Marozsan. Mittag with that backheel was also nice.
I am obviously sad, but anyway I feel like Japan had a great tournament anyway... For sure we finished Algarve way better than last year , with silver medal (and fair play award, a must for Nadeshiko Japan! ). It's a shame for this square loss, but I hope it will be a step on the road towards Asian Cup and WWC. Does anyone know who won MVP of the tournament? Maroszan, I suppose?
It was a great first half, but those two consecutive goals starting the second (when the Nadeshiko changes still not settling in the pitch) killed the competition.
I was thinking: if I am not wrong, Algarve Cup makes groups based on the results of the previous year. So, if this year we had the group of death with USA, Sweden and Japan, what kind of group could we expect to get in Algarve Cup 2015, with USWNT finished at 7th place and so considered as the "minnow" of one of the two groups? Group A: Germany, Sweden, China, USA, anyone?
What's disappointing as a neutral, who was pulling for the Japan (hah!), is the way Japan failed to capitalize off their numerous opportunities in the 1st half. I saw a headline earlier, which indicated that Germany "dominated" Japan. What a grossly misleading and unfair summary. At the end of 45 minutes, Japan could have easily led 3-0. The first half was exciting, despite the lack of goals. The 2nd part was like: Anyway, congrats Deutschland.
Alas, it's the story of this team. Should Japan start capitalizing 50% of their chances, they would start winning all matches by 5-0 or 6-0... Let's say we have "some problems" with scoring...
