Well, Iceland got a consolation goal...
I wonder if talk about Pia running up the score is going to surface again... (Yes I know USA beat China by the same GD. It's just all you funny people on that side of the Atlantic seem to feel it's much more evil than us "better-than-you" 'muricans do, if I remember the discussion from a while ago correctly... And yes, I'm trying to make fun of the general 'MURICA! people as well, I'm often embarrassed to share citizenship with them...)

And now I'm slightly miffed that the US has to actually try against Sweden if they want to make the final. Oh well. As if Pia VS USWNT wasn't going to be a big enough deal already.

    =edit=
...And Mexico loses to Wales 0-1. There's my other hope dashed. =-P

Pia's statement maybe directed at FC USWNT. It should be good Monday, so grab your popcorn.

Like I said, Costa Rica is better than Mexico, if they had a coach and something that smelled like a federation. :ROFLMAO:

1-6 at the end. And with that kind of score...

... well, it's just not done, is it?

Still, not sure that 6 goals counts as running up. It's a slippery slope, innit? 10-0 is, 4-0 is not. In-between those two... depends on whether 'my' team is somehow involved...

So Monday it's Norway v Germany and Sweden v US. Norway actually played Denmark tougher than Germany IMO so it might be a really good game.

4+2 (+2-0) Norway (advances with win or { draw and Denmark doesn't win 3+ })
4+1 (+2-1) Germany (advances with win)
2=0 (+0-0) Denmark (advances with win 3+ and GER-NOR draw)
    0-3 (+1-4) Japan

[GER-NOR] Field looks damp from coastal spring drizzle.

The German won the ski jump with a 128.5m monster, overcoming a deep knee bend on landing.

18' 0-0 #13 Okoyino da Mbabi at box arc top facing away, sweeps ball right to wide-open #15 Faißt at 14m right post. Slight clang to settle, #1 Hjelmseth charges out to 7m right post. Faißt snipes toward upper left back, Hjelmseth palm-blocks it wide left. Norway clear into right touch, then clear the throw-in.

23' 0-0 Germany bounce a long ball just into box top arc right. Okoyino da Mbabi stabs ball down just above box, tries to cut inside, loses footing and swan-dives theatrically over a foot (#3 Christensen?). No call, pops up sheepishly.

Germany (Silvia Neid): Not sure about Goeßling. U-20 grads Wensing and Maier are anchors in the back. Henning for Bartusiak.

4 Babett Peter, 22 Luisa Wensing, 20 Josephine Henning, 25 Leonie Maier
    Nadine Angerer

Norway (Even Pellerud): Bjånesøy is oddly not on either the Women's Soccer United roster nor Wikipedia's Norway page.
9 Melissa Linn Berman Bjånesøy, 7 Lene Mykjåland
10 Caroline Graham Hansen, 13 Gry Tofte Ims, 6 Maren Mjelde, 8 Solveig Gulbrandsen

28' 0-0 #22 Wensing stoops head at center circle top just as #9 Bjånesøy lifts a knee. Both miss ball, knee knocks Wensing into a daze. Stoppage, she stays down. Bleeding from a split cut above her left eyebrow. Trainer helps her off -- probably done for today.

31' 0-0 Germany subs in (1 of 3) #17 Jennifer Cramer for LCB #22 Luisa Wensing.

34' 0-0 Possession is roughly 55-45 Germany. Ball is in the middle 1/3 about 95% of the time, in Norway's box about 10 times, in Germany's box about twice. Norway has stout defensive and good-enough ping, but tend to hoof long upfield. (Pellerud :D)

Individually, RB #25 Maier is an Energizer bunny up the right, frequently camping out just past midfield right touch. Marozsan has been quiet -- "drifted out", by the pbp. OdM was a dynamo for the first ~20m, tapered off since. Mittag is rumored to be on the field somewhere -- the other 21 players are wondering.

35' 0-0 Germany kick long from midfield to #25 Maier streaking through box top right on an overlap. She cuts inward to 6-top right, as #14 Marozsan runs herself into a defender's back at box top center and tumbles down. #21 Dahle chases Maier late, slides poorly and causes a collision and fall -- no call. Ball bounces off Hjelmseth out to 14m right post. Marozsan, just getting up, pounces on it, blasts full cannon like good artillery, upward at 40 degrees and waaaaay high.

[DEN-JPN] 0-2 Japan chip from circle top right to 30m arc left, send #17 Ogimi free to 8m left post. She pulls the gk out and down, sidesteps her and pockets to center back low. Significant in that Denmark ain't poaching 1st, hence Norway would advance with an 0-0.

44' 0-0 RB #25 Maier streaks upfield to 24m box right again, stumbles down 1-v-2, but pokes ball forward between them. Mittag collects, drives hard down to 6-right foot. Crosses back to Marozsan at the spot -- ball hits her foot like a kettlebell, makes Maro trip and do the one-leg sipping-bird stance. Marozsan straightens and shoots high center -- Hjelmseth does a manta-ray backflip, palms ball leftward off the post, bounces herself off grass, and catches the rebound in front of her. Mzs smh

45+1' 0-0 Germany launch a couple more attacks, but don't improve on the above.

HT 0-0. Maier looks like she stole everybody else's Red Bulls, and drank them all in the tunnel. Marozsan and Mittag needed theirs ...

46' 0-0 Norway subs in (1 of 6) LF #19 Ada Stolsmo Hegerberg (17 yrs!!) for LM #10 Caroline Graham Hansen. LF #9 Bjånesøy goes wide to LM-ish.

48' 0-0 #7(?) Mykjåland threads a vertical ground ball to #19 Hegerberg through box top mid-left. #23 Henning produces an excellent slide-tackle from behind, takes ball cleanly at 7m mid-left, clears.

49' 0-0 Norway dump ball into 6-top left. Hegerberg absorbs a microbump from Maier(?), faceplants a bit easily at 6-top. No call, looked clean.

52' 1-0 #11 Mittag(?) passes from midfield circle right to Marozsan(?) at circle top right, continues her forward run, receives one-touch backpass. Mittag unleashes a sharp forward 25m ground pass, splits the CBs perfectly, sends #13 Okoyino da Mbabi splitting them through box top center, alone to 14m center. Hjelmseth is exposed, comes out to 9m and sprawls down, Okoyino da Mbabi chips softly over her, floats it into back right 1/3 high.

    55' 1-0 Norway subs in:
    - (2 of 6) #11 Leni Larsen Kaurin for #?
    - (3 of 6) #14 Ingvild Landvik Isaksen for LCM #13 Gry Tofte Ims?

56' 1-0 Germany subs in (2 of 6) #7 Melanie Behringer for LF #15 Verena Faißt.

58' 1-0 Norway subs in (4 of 6) #4 Ingvild Stensland for RCM #6 Maren Mjelde.

60' 1-0 Norway counter up box right, send #8 Gulbrandsen alone to 20m box right. She sees a tough 1-v-1 running toward left post, chips a poor cross that drifts too far and curls wide left. Could have dribbled closer, or waited more patiently.

66' 1-0 Norway surge up the right. Gulbrandsen curls a cross to 6-top center. Germany clang it out to 12m right post, directly under the foot of oncoming #14 Isaksen. She half-stumbles and rushees a one-touch volley (or couldn't get her feet out of the way), clangs it wide left. Had time and space to settle, but not the shoes ...

    68' 1-0 Germany subs in:
    - (3 of 6) #9 Alexandra Popp for #13 Célia Okoyino da Mbabi
    - (4 of 6) #18 Svenja Huth for #11 Anja Mittag
    - (5 of 6) #26 Nadine Keßler for #14 Dzsenifer Marozsan.

74' 1-0 Huth(?) sends a long ground ball up box left, Popp burns tired RB(?) Ryland. Easily gathers ball at 4m wide left, crosses back to 12m 6-right, misses everybody. Baby Horse > Young Albatross :D

79' 1-0 #4 Stensland rolls a vertical ground pass from 27m arc right to 15m, sends #19 Hegerberg through, but just a bit overweighted. Germany are having some trouble with Hegerberg's young legs ...

84' 1-0 Norway pass to Hegerberg at 24m box right. She stutters, gets pincered 1-v-2, taps wide right to Gulbrandsen. One-touch high cross not a great idea, Germany clear to 2 Norway players at 20m box top. One-touch dump back in is poor, Germany blocks, hoofs it wide to LCB(?) #3 Christensen at circle top left. Popp closes her down, times a lunge and blocks her pass behind, bursts past her. Christensen is beaten, hauls Popp's left arm, pulls her off ball and eventually drags her down (or it takes Popp 5m to realize that she should just fall). Christensen was last defender back  Ref benevolently gives a yellow card.

88' 2-0 Germany keep pressing box right. #20 Goeßling creeps to 6m box right, pauses, then darts inside to 6-right foot, LB doesn't go with her? Goeßling cuts back to 6-top center, #26 Nadine Keßler comes from behind defenders' heads and turns a simple right instep into center back low, behind stranded Hjelmseth.

    3-1 (+3-4) Japan

Does the Algarve use GD or H2H as the earlier tiebreaker?

    11th: Hungary v Portugal
    9th: Wales* v Iceland
    7th: Mexico* v Denmark
    5th: Japan v China (...o_O)
    3rd: Norway v Sweden
    1st: Germany v USA

Ignore the above.... I thought Wales-Hungary was over a while ago for some reason. Hungary just equalized, apparently.
