article but still no details http://newenglandsoccernews.com/us/wnt.php?article_id=10471 update.....here r some details http://integratedsportsnet.com/article.php?article_id=245
Your team's roster has been announced. http://www.pitchsidereport.com/2013/02/21/uswnt-23-player-rosters-for-2013-algarve-cup/
Not entirely true: some of the experienced players are still there (the likes of Iwashimizu, Sameshima, Kawasumi, Ogimi, etc.), so it's not like it's a pure U-20 or even U-23 team. But it's true that Sasaki left home a big part of the more aged veterans (most notably Sawa, Miyama, Fukumoto, Ohno, Ando, Maruyama), because he says that he knows well what they can give to the team and he wants to try new players (like recent U-20 WWC's star Yoko Tanaka); other players had to skip Algarve because they are quite seriously injured (Kinga, Sakaguchi, Iwabuchi). So yeah, it will definitely be a different line-up from what we were used to see at WWC 2011 and Olympics 2012, but it's not like Sasaki is dropping veterans for good. We'll see how Nadeshiko Japan will fare vs full Senior squads with all of their effectives. If you want to check out the complete roster, this is the link to the list, on the JapanFootball Association official site: http://www.jfa.or.jp/eng/topics/2013/15.html Edit: oh, yes, you are reading well: there are 3 Tanakas in the squad right now (Asuna Tanaka, Mina Tanaka and Yoko Tanaka; neither of them is realative with the other ones); on the other hand, Asano Nagasato is actually Yuki Ogimi's sister (Ogimi being the married name of Yuki Nagasato).
I seem to read that Krahn, Laudehr and Bajramaj are not in the squad because injured? (My German is unreliable at best, but I already knew about long Bajramaj's injury from the Frankfurt-Potsdam clash, so I supposed the other two aren't there for similar reasons).
Sweden dominating possession early against China. Lotta Schelin forced a very nice diving save from Zhang Yue in the sixth minute.
Score: China - 1 Sweden - 0 The Fighting Pia's need a comeback. Mod Edit: How about we don't use racism here?
[SWE-CHN] 32' 0-1 China chip up left touch, send #x in a running 1-v-1 arm-jousting duel for 20m, to box top left touch. Stalemate all the way, no foul (or equally fouled ), Sweden force China to turn and backshield, China backpass to ~25m. #x gets into her own 1-v-1, fights through that, circles back, also backpasses. #16 Wang Chen settles one touch, then passes ~15m forward low arc to box top arc left. #? and Fischer both jump facing away, contested header pops way high, drops to 11m spot. Lapse: Sweden have nobody in the box, nobody acquires #23 Ren Guixin running through box top arc center. She arrives first, volleys shin-high off left foot top, perfectly struck, into right back corner hard. Goalkeeper must have felt like the egret chick in the piranha river.
47' 0-1 Some excitement: Sweden hoof their customary long ball up right post, China chase and backpass. GK #1 Zhang Yue comes to box top, gacks a terrible clearance directly to onrushing #17 -- who awkwardly left-outstep reflects ball over Zhang's head, and just wide of right post.
1. She has home field advantage 2. She will not use 6 subsitutions in the Euros 3. The team construction should be done by then, currently it is not
Are you saying she experiments with players? there is a whole school of USA fans that will tell you she has never done that
Sundhage doesn't have to worry. Sermanni only used one sub today and already at least one fan is angry. Give it a year and he'll be the guy who has unreasonable loyalty to veterans and lets himself be bullied by popular players.
But since he did that I suspect that a good deal of those who did not play will start or play significant minutes in the next game
Hell go read equalizer they already have people posting in comments that he is too loyal to the veterans.
And... It's in the same post where the guy whines about how uncreative the team looks without Rapinoe and Heath in the midfield.
