    Per Kyle McCarthy's twitter:
"Albright out with torn L meniscus. My guess is that Igwe comes in at right back and the Revs stay in a 4, but all bets are off."

when the hell did this happen? when he was getting off the damn bus?! it's going to be a long night.

"The only addition is unfortunately a major one, as veteran defender Chris Albright has suffered a tear in his left meniscus and could miss extended time. Albright trained all week and actually traveled with the team for tonight’s match, but after initially raising concerns about his knee on Wednesday, the severity of the injury was confirmed after the team arrived in D.C. on Thursday."

We've reached the point of diminishing returns on Mr. Albright.

Thank The Universe we have his replacement on the roster. Now all we need to do is get him healthy.

Last season the Revs set a team roster record for days lost from injury and at the moment are staged to break that record.

We may need to get a "casting out spirits specialist" to come in and do a ritual to break the jinks that somehow has been cast over the training room. ;)

I hope this does not put added pressure on Alston to get on the pitch faster. hate to see him rush into it and aggravate the injury. Of he comes back healed I think we might have seen the last or Albright

Any idea on typical recovery time for meniscus surgery?

I agree, I hope Alston isn't rushed back, hate to see him further injure his hamstring.

The best case scenario (IMO) would be for Osei to arrive ASAP, get some training in, and have him play CB alongside Barnes, with Heaps back on the right. At least until we get Alston back.

Since I'm not up on the current procedures being done I can only guess but I think a player can be back to running in about two weeks. My guess to be game ready---about a month. FWIW, prior to Arthroscopic Surgery the open joint type surgery would have kept him out at least 3 months and possible been season ending.

Thanks, that is relatively good news. It is amazing both the recovery times and the injuries that are recoverable from these days.

i just had mine scoped a little over a month ago, and played last week. granted im not a pro athlete, but i was able to start rehabbing and strengthening it pretty quickly. this one was faster than the previous scopes, too.

the meniscus isn't that serious. he'll probably have some arthritic pain, but getting it shaved down wasn't a bad procedure at all (for me). doc could probably explain better, but in my case it just helped prevent the inflammation i was getting, and occassionaly locking of the knee (which was a pain in the ass annoyance more than anything). i came out feeling about as good as i felt before the tear. it wasn't like some of the other surgeries i've had where tendons and ligaments were reattatched, and were more invasive, where it took months just to regain SOME of the strength back.

Not enough info to tell. Recovery is very dependent on the location and nature of the tear as well as the repair. A limited tear that can be scraped will heal much faster than if the meniscus has a deeper tear that needed to be sutured.

Bottom Line is that Alston is likely to get back on the field before Albright and if he plays well may relegate Albright to being his backup. That's my hope.

I think we've seen the last of Albright as a starter.

Anyone care to compare our injury situation to the arrival of the field turf? I don't remember us being as constantly knicked up when we had grass.

In 2007 we had very, very few injuries.

It's hard to draw any definitive conclusions.

Or perhaps they need a new training staff or new practice routines. One year of many injuries can be written off to bad luck and perhaps, so can a second year. However, it would be appropriate to re-examine how things are done to see if something in training/preventative medicine can be done to change the injuries. Concussions are one thing, but hamstrings, quads, non-contact knee injuries, etc...can be aided by new routines

I hope they both get healthy soon and Tierney/Igwe become the backups.

I think Igwe has a a huge up side. He's still young but from what I seem this year he's maturing quite nicel and only needs playing time. He's still a kid.

I thought he struggled a few times vs. DC, but generally fought himself back into position most of the time (pretty much the same way I think Allston's played in his starts).

Apparently his surgery was a success and he'll be back in 6-8 weeks
    http://worldsoccerreader.com/2009/04/22/chris-albright-surgery-a-success-will-miss-6-8-weeks/

"New England Revolution defender Chris Albright underwent successful surgery today at Massachusetts General Hospital to repair a tear in his left lateral meniscus. Albright suffered the injury during training before the April 17th clash with DC United. The 30 year old has made only one appearance so far.."

he struggled a lot early, then settled in a bit more. he made a couple careless decisions in marking (or actually, not marking).
