Good question. It has been assumed for a year that Gallego was leaving after his junior season.

However, try as I might, I have yet to hear anything on this. Perhaps I am not probing the right sources. This sort of decision is usually settled by the New Year, making the timing a bit odd.

What is the deadline for HG contract offers?

I am reluctant to blatantly email the coaches; they presumably have more important things to do right now.

Well, this off-season Caleb has traded CBs Andrew Jean-Baptiste and David Horst so the Timbers' depth at CB isn't nearly what it was in 2013.

It certainly seems like he's clearing room on the depth chart. But for whom?

I've not seen him play.. I knew his name from Pick up games that my son engages in locally. He gets good respect from other College players locally.

    BTW.. no Gallego next year...

at least as of today... you know - no confirmation until there is confirmation...

I love to hear of good players engaging in "pick-up" games. That is the organic essence of any sport; playing. No refs, no coaches, no parents. When I was your son’s age, pick-up games where few and far between. The sport has certainly grown since then. I see players in the park all the time nowadays.

Have you a source on Gallego? I know you are right, but I cannot find it written anywhere. Portland Timbers I assume.

Is Bryce Cregan a CB or FB?

Speaking of pick up games, in case anyone hasn't heard of it ... the documentary Pelada (trailer here: )
tells the story of a former Notre Dame guy and Duke gal players who are done with college soccer, but don't want to stop playing. So they travel around the world playing pick up games. I thought it was great stuff.

    Not exactly relevant. Sorry.

But it appears that former Zip DeAndre Yedlin has been called-up to USMNT training camp.

Only 8 players left who were on the roster under Porter and only 4 of them played for Akron with Caleb coaching. And one of them may be leaving soon.

Bryan Gallego – 44 games, all starts in 2011 and 12
    Andrew Souders – 18 games, 7 starts in 2012
Saad Abdul Salaam – 13 games, 4 starts in 2012
    Phil Fives – 9 games, 4 starts in 2012

Pina, Malkin, Ruhak, Fenalson – DNP under Porter.

For better or worse, this is Jared Embick's team. And if Gallego goes, that becomes even more concrete. So any success, or failure, will be his to claim responsibility for.

Foldesy is/was the archetypal Akron style player, strongly preferring the short passing to feet. I hate to see him go for that reason, and also because I watched him play in high school. Good kid.

Small, quick, technical, clever. Perhaps held back only by his lack of raw athleticism. Good facilitator.

Best suited as a withdrawn forward, inverted winger, or offensive MF.
    Nikita Kotlov?

Well. scratch Gallego from this list.

    http://www.mlssoccer.com/news/artic...w-york-red-bulls-academy-product-bryan-galleg

That's three players left who took the field under Porter. That didn't take long.
