Turkmenistan vs. Indonesia Saudi Arabia vs. Hong Kong Iran vs. Maldives Syria vs. Tajikistan Iraq vs. Yemen Uzbekistan vs. Kyrgyzstan UAE vs. India China vs. Laos Jordan vs. Nepal Thailand vs. Palestine Kuwait vs. Philippines Lebanon vs. Bangladesh Oman vs. Myanmar Qatar vs. Vietnam Singapore vs. Malaysia I think only one match is hard to predict. The others are very very easy.
Disagree... I think Bangladesh could upset Lebanon, Palestine could also upset Thailand. Both situations are very similar you have two teams high on confidence at the moment against two ostensibly stronger teams that haven't played competitive football in ages. I think fans of Thailand and Lebanon would tell you that they could very well lose. I personally think Lebanon will do just enough to nick it... but who knows maybe the match in Dhaka will be plagued by a monsoon again. As for Palestine, they had three years in the wilderness but if you look at the results from 1999-2006 and what they've managed to do with their new manager there is an upward progression (friendly draws vs. UAE, Sudan comfortable victories over Afghanistan, Myanmar, Bangladesh in competitive matches). Palestine cruised to a 3-1 victory over Myanmar with a weakened squad (Myanmar scored a penalty). Whilst Thailand was unconvincing against them this past week (1-0 win, 1-1 draw). Factor in Thailand horrible away record in West Asia and you have to think Palestine have every chance of advancing. The other matches I think are toss ups: Malaysia-Singapore, Syria-Tajikstan (if only because of the recent unrest in Syria), and Turkmenistan-Indonesia (they met in 2006 WCQ both teams recorded 3-1 wins). Anyway what we should be rooting for is a slew of upsets. Because this qualification format leaves a lot to be desired... I know that Philippines and Palestine have called up players and their clubs wouldn't release them. It would be a lot easier to secure their services if the 2006 format which was aligned with UEFA's qualifying matchdays was retained.
Palestine is definitely not the weakest out there. But the victories were against teams like Afghanistan, Myanmar, and Bangladesh. I've watched Thailand play several times before. That team isn't to be underestimated.
Thanks again for everyone's who's playing. Congratulations to four players who went 15-for-15 in this week's games: Team Melli forever, diclem87, Perspolis#1, and Edgar. Edgar is the last player to have a perfect score for the whole game, he's 23-for-23 for 46 points. If I've made errors please let me know. (especially with the math, it should be easy through this point, but if you knew me, you'd double-check my math) Standings through the 2 preliminary rounds Player - (pts. for this series) overall pts. I'd assume with matches on Sept. 2 and 6. If that's right, I'll post those two days together. If you want to wait to make your picks for the second day of games until Sept. 3-6, that's fine.
Thanks 2 you how u calculated points inside the brackets, i didn't get it. My and jonny's forecast for 2nd leg matches were all the same, how come I have 28 and he has 26 points?
Apologies for all my screw ups. I'll go back and double-check everything I did this weekend. Maybe I'll get better at this in time for the 2018 World Cup. Honesty points can be the tiebreaker at the end of the whole game.
me too... I guess Turkmenistan and Malaysia will qualify but they were not. My score should be (26) 42. Thanks gettysburg32 to open the prediction game.
Ok, my second try at this. I think my main error was I brain farted for a stretch with the Indonesia-Turkmenistan series and mixed up that result for 6-7 straight players... Certianly double-check me again. Maybe I'll get it right in time for the next round. Player - (this round) overall pts. How will be the prediction procedure for the next round that begins on Sept. 2 ? Should we predict the score, the positions or the standings? Or just to write who wins or who ties?
For the group stage, pick the score for each match. The correct outcome will be 2 pts. per match and the correct score (not margin, just the exact score) will be 1 bonus pt. There's 60 matches in this round for 180 possible pts. for the overall game. Here's the schedule for Sept. 2 and 6. If you want to pick both days at once, or wait until after the Sept. 2 matches to pick Sept. 6's matches, either way's fine. Sept. 2 Group A China - Singapore Iraq - Jordan Group B Korea Republic - Lebanon United Arab Emirates - Kuwait Group C Japan - Korea DPR Syria - Uzbekistan Group D Australia - Thailand Oman - Saudi Arabia Group E Iran - Indonesia Bahrain - Qatar Sept. 6 Group A Jordan - China Singapore - Iraq Group B Lebanon - United Arab Emirates Kuwait - Korea Republic Group C Korea DPR - Syria Uzbekistan - Japan Group D Thailand - Oman Saudi Arabia - Australia Group E Qatar - Iran Indonesia - Bahrain
So lets go!!! Sept. 2 Group A China 4-0 Singapore Iraq 2-0 Jordan Group B Korea Republic 4-0 Lebanon United Arab Emirates 1-1 Kuwait Group C Japan 3-0 Korea DPR Syria 1-2 Uzbekistan Group D Australia 4-0 Thailand Oman 1-1 Saudi Arabia Group E Iran 3-0 Indonesia Bahrain 1-0 Qatar
