http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/9905411/ Aaron Brown makes the mistake of going on vacation. In his absence, Anderson Cooper gets Newsnight's timeslot! Only good news for AB is that he just signed a 2-year extension, so he'll either get a buyout or paid for the duration. Does anyone watch CNN? care? Will the windchimes remain? I found AB calm but quirky, perhaps AC's more emotive side will play better to the viewing public. He does have his fans (& stalkers).
I was no Aaron Brown fan (too mealy mouthed, especially in the runup to the Iraq War). But Cooper is trite and silly and vapid, IMO. From bad to worse, IMO. But then I only watch CNN when something big is going down.
YAWN... mainstream media sucks. Actually, this whole move sucks because now Wolf Blitzer gets another hour on the air. Ugh.
I found Aaron Brown to be unwatchable. I am pleased to see him go. Cooper is more of a media-darling (hence vapid - good description) but Brown's pseudo-intellectualism and fake interest in his interviewees made me nauseous. So bad, in fact, I often switched to FOX news !
CNN has turned into a joke. We've got Wolf Blitzer and his superficial understanding of every situation. We've got Larry King -- watching him with his hunched shoulders makes my back hurt...and my brain explode. We had Aaron Brown -- a guy who had as much vitality as Sominex pill. And now, Anderson Cooper, who main claim to fame is that he looks really young for the young crowd, and has the prematurely gray hair for the old crowd. Meanwhile, Fox is eating them for lunch.
Totally agree, up until the Fox News part. Brown was my least favorite anchor on CNN or MSNBC combined - and that includes Scarborough and Kagan.
That's how I feel about all the cable and network news channels. It's like choosing between McDonald's, Burger King, and Taco Bell. None of the above, thanks.
That's because CNN has to share the non-idiot audience with ABC, CMS, NBC, MSNBC, etc. Fox has the idiot audience all to themselves.
I like Aaron Brown, starting from the days when he hosted a late night news show with Lisa McCrae (sp?). What is she doing nowadays?
Actually, back when he was doing the solo act on the very, very late ABC news he was just outlandishly funny and wild. He and the staff would do some unbelievable stunts because he knew no one was watching. For example, he would report the sports highlights using the most cringingly bad cliches possible, and there would be a computer meter on the bottom of the screen rating how bad a cliche it was in real time. I never watched him recently, however.
Almost no video, actually. I read top US, British, and Israeli newspapers, mostly online. I also subscribe to numerous news and business magazines.
Until I went out on the road, I saw almost TV news (unless, as someone stated earlier, something big was happening.) I got my news from assorted online news papers and NPR. If I saw video, it's because it was on the Daily Show. However, now that I'm travelling I can't always get NPR and my internet access is spotty, so I've found myself watching more TV news than usual and man does it suck.
The twittersphere is rocking with dissapointment that he and Kathy Griffin won't ever make out on NYE. I'll admit, I too always rooted for them to get it on. Oh well. Maybe she made him gay...
