Good performances do attract worthy looks. Nice sized club. I only know about Olsson. Whose the other competition he'd have there? So his value doubled during his time in the Championship as opposed to when he joined Bolton from MLS
Liam Ridgewell and Diego Lugano. Lugano has been a massive disappointment at West Brom though so really just Ridgewell.
Tim Ream and Bolton win 2-1 at Doncaster . . http://www.bbc.com/sport/0/football/26830311 Ream's agent downplays move to West Brom: http://www.mlssoccer.com/news/artic...amps-down-talk-west-brom-t?module=from_footer AMSTERDAM – The agent for Bolton defender Tim Ream has cooled talk of an impending transfer offer from Premier League side West Bromwich Albion, as reported by UK tabloid site ClubCall.com on Tuesday. The outlet claims that representatives from the Baggies front office will be in attendance when Bolton visit Doncaster in league play on Tuesday. Though Ream's agent did not completely dismiss the report, it was all news to him. "I'm not aware of any potential bid from West Brom or scouts watching him tonight, but this is quite normal," Ream's rep, Patrick McCabe, told MLSsoccer.com. "Tim is quite settled at Bolton and really likes playing for [manager] Dougie Freedman. He is focused on playing weekly and finishing the season in good form."
West Brom is above the drop zone atm, but only just, and their recent form may well see them relegated at the end of the season. Things aren't all that rosy there atm. As for the potential transfer itself, 4 million pounds for Tim Ream sounds crazy. For reference, that's not that far from what Roma paid for Bradley (in cash, the player rights granted were worth a bit more IIRC), and while the English transfer market is stupid as all get out I'm pretty sure WBA would be overpaying if they went anywhere near that. I think Bolton paid out about 2.5 million dollars back in early 2012 so that and a bit of change is good business. For 4 million pounds they'd be shoving Tim onto West Brom's arms with no backsies, as they should.
All true, however, the numbers have greatly changed in the Premiership with the new (and greatly increased in the past two years) TV revenue. It is almost like they are playing with Monopoly money (and are not sure how to play). The money available is quite different, these days. This puts much additional pressure on the opportunity to stay up (in the Prem). And the new wages clubs are willing to pay talent are staggering. It would be nice if TR was playing for West Brom (and we could watch him on TV) next year. Go on, son . .
It is a ridiculous amount of money they can earn. 63 million pounds just for finishing bottom + 3 years of parachute payments. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/fo...ize-money-for-next-seasons-title-winners.html
Anyone know where Tim played yesterday? The report sounded like an onslaught against Bolton after the half. With all the injuries and form lapses I would think JK might strongly consider TR for the 30 man short list?
He's still at left-back. Doncaster's goal yesterday was from a 30 yard free-kick on the right side of Bolton's goal (I'd be surprised if Ream committed the foul).
Ream showed up twice in the highlights of this game and came away looking good both times. First, he volleyed an awkward rebound away from the goalmouth, and the second was near assist on a free kick cross (good save).
Versatile Tim Ream starts at central midfield today in the 4-3-3 for Bolton today vs Barnsley: https://uk.eurosport.yahoo.com/football/championship/2013-2014/bolton-wanderers-barnsley-619401.html
Bolton won 1-0. I think Ream played in central defense, unless Spearing played there? http://www.whoscored.com/Matches/721483/Live
How good is Ream now compared to the best defenders in the division? From those who watched him, is he ready and solid enough for a return to the PL?
On the other hand, the Yahoo UK link you posted has Ream in CM with Trotter playing CB in the player ratings page, so I'm not sure what the actual lineup was without having watched it. Also, Zat Knight came in for Alex Baptiste in the 85th minute. I assume this resulted in Ream moving to left back for the last few minutes, unless they went to 3 in the back.
Yahoo UK is absolutely great for following Premier League games. One can view several at a time with (almost) live commentary. We would have known exactly who was playing which position and where the sub was coming in to play. Regretably, the technology is obviously not as well defined for the championship matches. It was exciting to see that he might be playing in central midfield. (Even though on the USA level it is not a position of our need, I believe it might be TR's best position). Trotter, of course, is ordinarily a midfielder for Bolton. Regardless, it was good to see that they got the job done, even at 1-0, against the relegation fodder of Barnsley. Early on in their season, Bolton struggled in matches such as this and typically clubs in danger of relegation play harder to avoid relegation than the Boltons (who basically have little to play for, perhaps).
In the 84th minute, Baptiste allowed his man to turn and get into the box, and then took him down for a PK. At the time, it certainly appeared that he was at LB and Ream at CB. (Luckily, the PK was missed.)
