Re: A Wanderful Ream Has Come True: Tim Ream @ Bolton What hype has there been really? From people's reports on here, it sounds like the transfer is going to be an unmitigated disaster.
Re: A Wanderful Ream Has Come True: Tim Ream @ Bolton In the two years that Coyle has been manager of the club, I've never heard him be negative about anything.
Re: A Wanderful Ream Has Come True: Tim Ream @ Bolton ... and furthermore, why would Coyle be negative about a player he just signed after selling his best player? That isn't the time for an honest assessment of Ream, even if he had reservations on the signing.
Re: A Wanderful Ream Has Come True: Tim Ream @ Bolton "Well the truth is I was drunk for the past week, you know the season has been rough. I've been missing Stu you know, it's tough without him. I had a bit too much whiskey and thought I could hit the jackpot with another MLS player. Truth is I'd never heard of him and now I've seen on the message boards that he's not really that good so I'm in a bit of a bind with that. Re: A Wanderful Ream Has Come True: Tim Ream @ Bolton "Yank lad's a wee bit dodgy, but we're up to our riddy arses in debt, ye numpty."
Re: A Wanderful Ream Has Come True: Tim Ream @ Bolton That's true, I guess you're right... I suppose they just seem much more positive than my own expectations.
Re: A Wanderful Ream Has Come True: Tim Ream @ Bolton Guess it had to be some of each, but I sure thought he did better at LB. Main point is that neither Boca nor Gooch stuck in the EPL at CB, and they were much better when they went there than Ream is now. Therefore, IMO, he will have to undergo an almost unprecedented improvement for a US player to the EPL to succeed. But, once again,I hope I'm wrong.
Re: A Wanderful Ream Has Come True: Tim Ream @ Bolton Well, playing side is somewhat like learning to ride a bike: once you've done it, you can do it again. As a lefty, my main position was wing but I also did some defending. Playing as a LB, it means you have to keep an eye on the defense line and track back whenever the other team starts a counter. Those become like a second instinct, that you bring out whenever you have to play LB again, even if it's after a long hiatus. For a lefty, playing LB is natural, I'd say. In that sense, Ream deserves to be given a try.
Re: A Wanderful Ream Has Come True: Tim Ream @ Bolton Fair enough, what I should have said is that they were one of the worst defensive sides in the PL during his time there.
Re: A Wanderful Ream Has Come True: Tim Ream @ Bolton Well, he did get to play in front of van der Sar for a while. Not surprisingly, they weren't too bad with him in goal. But otherwise, yeah, that defense was always just scraping by. In the end, though, Bocanegra ended up with 115 EPL appearances, including a few as team captain. Then he became an immediate starter for a team that had one of the better defenses in France. That's not exactly cause for some people (not you) to write off Ream's European adventure before it even begins.
Re: A Wanderful Ream Has Come True: Tim Ream @ Bolton It's been a while since I watched those matches, but my vague recollection is that you have it backwards. The lineups posted on football-lineups.com seem to support that. These are Boca's first two seasons at the club. They have him at LB for every start: http://www.football-lineups.com/team/Fulham/FA_Premier_League_2003-2004/analysis http://www.football-lineups.com/team/Fulham/FA_Premier_League_2004-2005/analysis CB, during his third season: http://www.football-lineups.com/team/Fulham/FA_Premier_League_2005-2006/analysis A mix of CB and DM during his fourth season: http://www.football-lineups.com/team/Fulham/FA_Premier_League_2006-2007/analysis And CB during his last season: http://www.football-lineups.com/team/Fulham/FA_Premier_League_2007-2008/analysis

Re: A Wanderful Ream Has Come True: Tim Ream @ Bolton When's the first game that he's expected to play? Next week or the following week?
Re: A Wanderful Ream Has Come True: Tim Ream @ Bolton And is it too early for me to declare that he has already failed/succeeded beyond hope of redemption/anyone's wildest dreams and that he should therefore be cast into the discard bin of soccer history/declared the entire starting XI for the USMNT now and forever, amen? I'll be busy next week, and I don't want to fail in my duties as a BS poster.
Re: A Wanderful Ream Has Come True: Tim Ream @ Bolton Probably a reserve match next week. I don't think he'll be thrown in at the deep end unless we have a succession of injury problems.
Re: A Wanderful Ream Has Come True: Tim Ream @ Bolton When do you think Coyle will start including him in the 18?
Re: A Wanderful Ream Has Come True: Tim Ream @ Bolton Someone neg rep this post, I can't hit it with both positive and negative.
