I'm pretty sure winning aerial battles is one of, if not the single, most important job for a CB

He's both. The fact that he's a good tactical player and passer does not mean that he doesn't have other major flaws. In a perfect world, you have a player who is both technically sound and athletically sound. For a defender, the athletic part is actually the most important. No-one cares how slick a passer you are when you are frequently beaten physically by mediocre forwards

I figured he wouldn't be involved because he owes his wife a honeymoon. I was impressed with the improvements he made in such a short time with Bolton, so I'm looking forward to seeing him get another chance with the USMNT.

He's turning down qualifiers to go on a honeymoon?!

Could end up being a Knightmare as well if Wheater misses most of the season.

Not just that, but he probably has a lot of stuff to take care of since he left so abruptly. Guzan skipped the Gold Cup to get married.

John Ruddy has been allowed to miss the warm up games for Euro 2012 to get married. Who would've thought footballers had personal lives?!? Shocking stuff.

Guzan was unlikely to play even a minute.

If Tim Ream declined a call up to qualifiers, unless Klinsmann told him he'd be unlikely to play, I'd consider him personally blacklisted.

Not everything is so absolute. Its perfectly possible that Ream explained the situation and Klinsi let him take some time off.

@SoccerByIves spoke with Ream yesterday, he said Klinsmann wanted to give him some rest.
    James Coston@JamesCoston
Just to clarify, Ream says there is NO rift w/ Klinsmann. He says they're in contact w/ each other frequently. #USMNT #bwfc#SoccerSTL

Ream: "He (Klinsmann) still wants me to come in after a short break and continue to improve and show what I can do." #SoccerSTL#USMNT #bwfc

Ream's statement makes it sound like he will be a late addition to the squad by Klinsmann.

It does sound that way, but what would be the point really? They've already got 5 CBs including Parkhurst (CB/RB). Surely he's just fumbling with his words.

Knight-Ream should be a good enough central defensive nucleus in the championship. They have Mears as a right back, and would Ricketts be the left back? thats not too bad.

So glad Knight isn't at Villa anymore. Awful CB. I don't think he can handle some of the strikers in the championship to be honest.
