Interview with Bedoya from a program ran by the local paper covering football in the Helsingborg region. It will be interesting to see what kind of form Bedoya is in if he gets to play next weekend. Another swedish player, Mervan Celik, also escaped the Rangers bankruptcy and played half a season with his swedish club this spring and then managed to get signed abroad again after that with a newly promoted Serie A team (even though he looked a shadow of his former self after returning from Scotland). The game next weekend is against league leaders Elfsborg and as you can see in the top of the table below it will have a big deciding factor on whether or not Helsingborg will be one of five teams fighting for first place this fall. Code: Elfsborg 18 12 2 4 31-15 38 Malmö FF 19 10 5 4 33-24 35 BK Häcken 19 10 3 6 39-23 33 AIK 19 9 6 4 24-18 33 Helsingborg 18 8 7 3 29-19 31
Helsingborg lost out on their successful on-loan forward Finnbogason they hoped to sign to a last minute bid from Heerenveen. Bedoya will replace him this weekend playing up front or maybe play as withdrawn striker.
That's a substantial loss. He was scoring at a nice rate. But this is a great opportunity for Bedoya.
Yeah, really unfortunate timing for Helsingborg with the upcoming CL playoffs and decisive stretch of games in the league. They had pretty much counted on Finnbogason being their number one striker going forward, he started off his loan looking pretty mediocre but his form during the last month has been fantastic. And now it does indeed look like Bedoya will partner up top with norwegian striker Thomas Sørum who has struggled greatly since making the move to Sweden. The other two forward alternatives Alvaro Santos and Erik Sundin are getting old and have seen better days. Helsingborg will likely bring in a new forward before the end of August and move Bedoya back into midfield again so this is of course not a problem in the long run but together with some injury worries in their backline it does significally lessen their chances to qualify for Champions League and close in on the top of the table over the next few weeks.
Bedoya is immediately thrown into the fire and starts at top of the table Elfsborg. Guess who scored the goal to put Helsingborg ahead at the break?
Why? He has never played in a better league than Sweden, unless you count the tiny amount of time he got at Rangers (and how good Scotland is is debatable).
I'm saying he should have played his card better when he was making his move out of Sweden. I felt he would have been better signing for a mid table side in the Netherlands than going to Rangers.
He will be available to make a free transfer at the end of the calendar year, and at the very least Helsingborg will be playing Europa League group stage games. Plus Celtic is the only thing standing between him and the Champions League group stage.
Very nice goal by Bedoya If he has a good season then it is very likely that he will move on to a better club/league.
New article on Alejandro Bedoya in the New York Times. Talks about Helsingborg and the Rangers http://goal.blogs.nytimes.com/2012/08/18/bedoya-scores-in-debut-for-new-club/
Yeah definitely incredibly smart of him signed to the end of the season. Helsingborg may repeat as champions and are so close to CL football. Whatever happens, it will only help his transfer next year. Hope he heads to Eredivisie.
Rangers were will to pay lots of people money that they didn't have. I don't think Örebro ever received their full transfer payment.
Elfsborg came back to win 2-1 so Helsingborg fall 10 points out of first. Bedoya went the distance and picked up a yellow card. The New York Times article states that Bedoya had interest from multiple clubs when he left Rangers. On going to Helsingborg:
Helsingborg's home leg in the Champions League playoff round will be shown live on FSC on Tuesday at 2:30 eastern. It will be replayed again at 8:00 eastern.
Looks like Bedoyas days as a forward might be coming to an end as Helsingborg just announced the signing of the norwegian league top goalscorer Nikola Đurđić. Not sure if Đurđić will get to start immediately against Celtic but if so Bedoya are most likely to feature as a winger.
