That photo of Suncorp must have been just after it re-opened. The pitch looks terrible.

My god suncorp is such a great stadium. I wish we had it down here!

Although I believe Melbourne Victorys new stadium in 2009 will top it! ;) (apart from capacity ofcourse, but they are laying foundation for future expansion of 50,000 :))

Man, are you serious? 50,000 for a soccer specific stadium? Thats awesome. I've noticed that there seem to be a lot of stadiums in Australia. How are most of the stadiums funded anyways? Private or government? Here in Canada, the government is usually very anal about funding stadiums, thus the reason why you don't see many huge outdoor stadias up here. I think it started when the government foolishly decided to completely fund Sky Dome (wiki it up) and realized after a while that what they had built was a liability. It is a great stadium, no doubt, but the retractable roof and the 55,000 capacity were not needed. I think it cost the government $500 million to build and in contrast, the stadium was sold to Ted Rogers (the guy who also owns the baseball team calls the Sky Dome its home) for $10 million only a couple of years ago. Ever since then, all levels of governments all across Canada are very hesitant to fund such facilities.

Not quite soccer specific, it will be shared with the Melbourne Storm rugby league team, as both sports need a rectangular stadium and are played at different times during the year.

But yeah- most stadiums are government projects, but they get a corporate sponsor on board to own the naming rights to the stadium and help to offset the cost of the construction and ongoing maintenance.

Currently the proposal is only for 31,000, up from the original 20,000 capacity which is shown below.

That is still quite something. According to the wiki page, it said that the two teams refused to play in a smaller stadium and the provincial government caved in to their demands. Here in Canada, the provincial government would most probably tell the owners to eff off if they ever made demands like that.

I don't like the style of the stadium - IMO it honestly looks like white dog shit  . Why can't they just make it nice and straight with a bubble look???

Especially the middle picture looks like one big turd. Honestly a 5 year old kid could do a better job designing.

Yeah i guess when you compare it to grand old Hindmarsh the two dont really compare

Personally i think the images look ok, i think that once its done it will look kind off like Bayern's Allianz Arena, but smaller and not so round. Guess we'l, wait and see.

I don't get it??? What is it compared to Hindmarsh???

No cause the allianz arena is flowing not like this new stadium, where it seriously looks like Mr Hankey from South Park lying down, coloured in white, lol.

Wouldn't it be great if they could build the stadium in a way where the seating at the two ends of the pitch could be brought closer to the goals for a league season, and pushed back for rugby season.

I thought they were planning on making the stadium so the end seating was capable of doing that? Don't ask me how, but i did hear it somewhere.

Moving end stands is quite easy infact. Many stadiums have that ability. If that is all it takes to make the stadium compatible for both soccer and rugby than it is easily doable.
